I was the same number all day yesterday too. Ever since the traffic bots ban came into operation, the meter has been frozen.

Yes. Asset server SNAFU-ish
Maybe the Meter was frozen so that it would not show 150,000 onlline and scare the hell out of us. The Meter has been frozen in the past. Just borkiness. _____________________

Yes. Asset server SNAFU-ish Could that be the reason why my AV now has un-removable ' eyelashes ' ? I've tried un-installing, reg-edit, CCleaner and they're still there! _____________________

I have un-installed and cleaned registry after each attempt. _____________________

It's not just the concurrency, a few other stats got got stuck Thursday afternoon SL time too. Someone probably just needs to kick something.

The regular uninstaller doesn't really clean up after itself that aggressively. |

Guess I'll just have to put up with it until LL fixes things. * note to LL ... If something ain't broke, don't ' fix ' it * ![]() edit ... seems to happen if I get the " region is using a different server version " message _____________________

getting rid of all the bots only exposed the ninjas using them for camouflage..ninjas are trained to act like a deer caught in headlights when there is a chance they have been seen...this is why the numbers have not moved in a couple of days..ninjas are very disciplined..
unlike all the pirates that showed up with the camping..arrrrrrr _____________________

Sure the people don't have time to wait patiently. So, they have to put out their (automatic bots) to increase both residents online and cause lag on certain regions. that is why it was good to ban traffic bots even though I haven't shown my face in SL for a while. _____________________

The last half dozen or so times I've logged on, there have been 76,942 residents on line. I don't think the meter is working. Yesterday's asset server issues was one of the longest that we have had in a while. Per the Grid Status page, they first posted about it at 1:28 pm SLT and did not post their final "resolved" message until 6:25 pm SLT _____________________

Traffic bots leaving in droves
05-03-2009 09:46
Pretty obvious that the traffic bots are being pulled either voluntarily or forcefully. And the real numbers are probably so shocking, LL just can't find their way to revealing them.
Say that the real numbers now are 15,745 and not 76,000+. How does that play into promoting SL as a robust expanding virtual world, an excellent place for large corporations, universities, etc. to come and mingle with the masses, or hide off on their own private islands, in a new and glorious environment? When its millions of "members" really just translates to far far less than 1% actually bothering to come back after the first few visits? And the members that do come back every day are the content creators trying to sell virtual goods to one another, and the newbies before they don't bother coming back. Soon to be reduced even further by various policies, newly announced and soon to be implemented. LL is transforming SL into something else. It's just not entirely clear if they'll succeed. |

Either that, or most of the bots are still around. Pretty much. The only immediate change I've seen is a sudden resurgence in camping. A few random checks turn up a variety of profiles and born dates, so maybe some of them are "real" avatars now. I guess that's a small improvement over pure drones, but I don't think anything will really change much unless/until the promised traffic scrubbing happens. |

ooOOoo. The number has changed now. It's gone up a bit. They've had plenty of time to put an auto-adjustment into it, so they've released it live.

ooOOoo. The number has changed now. It's gone up a bit. They've had plenty of time to put an auto-adjustment into it, so they've released it live. They haven't fully enforced it as yet Phil.....plenty of places still have them....maybe a section of the population are totally unware of the new policy. How many people read the Blog announcements? 2000+ ? 5000 + ? anymore than that? One place I mapped got rid of them and then a day or two later placed them all back again. I think LL have their hands full. Are all the Ad farms successfully dealt with?....what about those high priced mirco parcels?....do they still exist? Soon they'll have Adult Content to contend with too......the whole thing is a mess. I bet the CEO gave a list of things to accomplish by such and such a date at all costs.....he doesn't care how they do it as long as it's done! I'd hate to be someone working for that company now. |

It's been in the 70ks since it fired up again. I'll have a much better idea if the numbers have actually changed to a noticeable degree or not when I get up tomorrow but I'm doubting it. It's just a half-hearted effort on LL's part - except for when Jack told someone to remove the camping or cut a seperate parcel for it. For a minute there, his heart was in it - but only for a minute lol

It shows me 71,435 at the moment - it's a different number. It was high 70ks not long ago and I do keep seeing it change.

It does appear to be fixed, but updating sporadically. Currently the update time is about 45 minutes behind. When all is well it updates about every three minutes. There are also a couple of different versions of the stats cached, about 5 minutes apart.

Huh? i was talking about ninjas and pirates silly wabbit heheheheh but since you want to talk about why bots came about ok hehehehe it's not because people were getting harrassed for campers..it was because bots were cheaper than campers because people were not getting paid for traffic on their sim'ss anymore..bots were free and would sit there all day where a camper costs money and would sit there all day.. they were just better all around..and they didn't lag out a sim like campers did..bots don't do anything but meditate..campers could be active doing anything from im's to handing inventory back and forth to friends or uploading textures or anything that people do when they are just standing . _____________________
