am currently sat on a rocket at over 100k meters up, heading for the 'roof' of SL - is there one? and does anyone know where it is? I'm on a mission..lol - is it going to take me a month to find the limit? Answers appreciated!

I tried seeing how high up I could get once - didn't get to a limit. Every time I got to add another digit I kept thinking I would reach some parameter maximum, but I never got to one.
Do let us know if you succeed. _____________________

I think you missed the roof and are headed out of the solar system

It's more fun walking along the Linden highways - both the completed ones and the unmade protected routes.

There is no upward limit. Your avatar may begin to degrade the higher up you go, however.

If you get up high enough, you break through the ceiling and end up in the space level of Spore. Too far to the right and you're in WoW, and Everquest is due South. It's part of the Space/Time/MMO continuum.

i orbited my alt well over 5 million (just to see what would happen) 10 minutes later he was still falling....
there is deffiantly no roof, i think everyone trys this out at some point in there sl life ![]() it's been said befor, but it would be great if there was a hight that the sky just went black with stars like space, inside the build limits would be fantastic -Crunch _____________________

Most people log out on the way up (Me included) so I can't offer proof. I heard people say that in the days before some update (Mono?) your Av got messed up well before you reached appogee. Regards. I dunno...when I took that ice cream up to him at around 900k his eyes were popping rather scarily, and his goggles were inbedded in his skull....and I couldn't even see his tail! If you get up high enough, you break through the ceiling and end up in the space level of Spore..... /me straps a rocket to her back....I'll see you guys in a bit... ![]() _____________________

The highest I've been was 14 billion km. It was done using a collision orbiter...wished I'd taken a picture of it as my avatar was severely distorted.

I don't know if it's inappropriate to revive old threads like this, but.. There is (even in H1) a ceiling, at a bit above 340.2 trillion trillion trillion meters up, or 2^128 meters up to be exact. I made a device that let me reach that altitude in 5 minutes. Sadly, it doesn't work in H4. In theory, there's a (much lower) ceiling in Havok 4 based on the fact that at higher altitudes, you need to be going at a certain speed to get further, and the speed is capped to 250m/s (I think).

The highest I've been was 14 billion km. It was done using a collision orbiter...wished I'd taken a picture of it as my avatar was severely distorted. After I did that Beatfox Xevious passed the trillion meter point with a push orbiter and I bowed out of the competition. A couple of releases later Linden Labs nerfed push so much that my 2 billion meter orbiter couldn't get over a hundred million meters any more, and the whole thing became boring. I don't know if Beatfox beat your 14 trillion meter record or not, but that's pretty impressive. _____________________

I was the first avatar over 2 billion meters, I don't know how much further I went because the Z coordinate wasn't shown in the title bar back then, and my script to display my position pegged at MAXINT. Why why why did you do this? |

Why why why did you do this? "And now I'm going to show you something really cool!" Don't you think traveling more then five times as far as Neil Armstrong in less than a second is cool? All my attachments got blown off and my avatar got compressed into a twisted pancake with my eyeballs on my chin and all four limbs turned into crooked zigzags. It was awesome. _____________________

Didn't you read my signature? "And now I'm going to show you something really cool!" Don't you think traveling more then five times as far as Neil Armstrong in less than a second is cool? All my attachments got blown off and my avatar got compressed into a twisted pancake with my eyeballs on my chin and all four limbs turned into crooked zigzags. It was awesome. I meant why would you have the script to display altitude cast to an integer? Why didn't you leave it as a float? |

My device had two scripts set to llSetForce(<0, 0, MAX_FLOAT>
, with provisions to keep halving the force once it stops moving upwards. |
