From: Screwtape Foulsbane I'm not ready to buy land yet but I want a place to set as home, entertain, and work in peace. I'm thinking of renting but I've read some horror stories here. Can any of you point me to good places to rent and landlords to avoid?
Thanks in advance S I might have a place for you. Contact me in world for info

Cristalle didnt say it, but I know for a fact...she is one of the best landlords ever to be in sl. She has homes, apartments, and skyboxes..at reasonable prices..and has the patience of a saint. Thanks Cristalle, for being you!

The advise I can give you is to make sure that you check out the reputation of the landlord. Look at the sim and spend a little time there. Talk to the current residents if there are any. See if it a place you will enjoy and that it is lag free... then go for it..

I once rented a nice mainland 1028sm plot for $250 a week or $1000 a month. I thought that was quite reasonable. If anyone would like to know who the landlord is plase drop me an IM.

Still finding it hard to get the right place. Found something ideal ... the rental boxes were screwed and I tried to rent a plot. However, in the middle of talking to the landlady someone else paid her directly (some 8 hours after I tried to use the box) so that was the end of that.
Found another place last night and I have IMMmed the estate owner as couldn't see whether the lot was going to be let or not, I bet that goes before I get chance to do anything about it too ... flipping rl work getting in the way!

Whoever you decide to rent from, make sure you discuss it with the estate owner first.
There is a scam going on where people hang out in rental communities and ask potential tenants to pay them directly, claiming that they work for the estate owner.

Another reason to insist on paying only rental boxes and checking who owns the region and some of the items on it. I really wish there was some of Anti Scam group that could educate new people. If people didn't fall for the scammers, they'd go away and stop preying on people.

Wow never even thought of that although I have seen signs in shops warning people not to buy off others claiming to work for the shop.
So yes definately only pay through the Rent boxes or if there is no rentbox then check the persons profile as if they are genuine then it should be in there as to their actual role is.
Glad you found a place.
