I just opened my SL account a few weeks ago, and I'm not sure if I will continue in SL or not. So far I'm not finding it a very stimulating place to be, but I'm sure I'm missing something.

My questions:

What happens to my avatar when I am offline or logged out of SL? Does she sit there looking mindlessly around until I come back? Do other residents see her?

If I decide to not login to SL for a significant period of time (several weeks or months), does my account stay active? Do I retain my SL name?

What if I decided to leave SL for good? How would I close my account?

Thanks in advance for all replies!

When you log out your avatar disappears. Your account stays active no matter how long you stay away. You can use the My Account link to cancel and make other changes to your account.

Don't give up too quickly.
While this isn't a 'game' with definite goals to achieve, there are lot of different things to do here. So much so that you can't possibly find it all at once.
Just get used to getting around and things will present themselves. The learning curve can be a bit steep and it can take a while to get perfectly comfortable.

Let us know what interests you and we can give you plenty of suggestions for things to do.

B.

1. When you are offline, your avatar vanishes. Nobody will see her. She will only reappear when you log back on again.

2. Your account stays active, yes, and you'll retain your name.

3. You can delete your account at any time. Make sure you're logged into the website and go to the Cancel Account page:

https://secure-web10.secondlife.com/account/cancel.php?lang=en

As to finding Second Life stimulating, where have you been? Have you checked out some of the threads in this forum about great places to visit? What kinds of interests do you have? There is something for almost everyone here, whether they want to find places to dance or chat or learn or explore.

This thread was started by someone else asking what is there to do and see in SL, You might find some great places to try in the comments:

Also, this thread looks to be shaping up into an 'interesting places to look at' one:

Sometimes you just gotta stimulate yourself...to get things going....

Open up the Search Menu, and on "Places" type in a keyword that interests you. You will get a lot of unrelated hits, but just visit the places that come up, you'll find something that interests you.

Second Life requires quite a bit of input, time and commitment by you, the resident, in order to make it a rewarding experience. Stick with Second Life, you'll probably find it's worth the effort!
