Favorite themed residences?

I've been on hiatus from SL about a month due to RL obligations (good ones mostly).

On my return I notice I'm disatisfied with my mainland residence. It's in a low traffic, low interest area. It's surroundings, while not really eyesores, are chaotic and uncomfortable.

I'm thinking of selling it and trying to find a themed residence. The theme doesn't matter so much as long as it isn't a tropical island paradise. There are about 600 thousand of those! I love science fiction, fantasy, or historical period themes (but not Gor). Ideally I could just rent a parcel and build whatever I want on it keeping within the theme.

Is there such place, or am I dreaming? Caledon fits the bill, but I bet there's a waiting list a mile long for that - deservedly so. Any others?

Little known fact: Caledon land is frequently advertised for sale on the Caledon Forums: http://www.caledonforums.com/

In no particular order these are some places I've had property in (and some still do). I have had nothing but good experiences with the sim owners, and they all have very active communities:

Caledon (Steampunk/Victoriana)
Babbage (Steampunk, a touch more urban)
Antiquity (More general 19th century, and lots of pirates)
New Toulouse (1920s New Orleans)
Steelhead (early 19th century Oregon)
Languedoc (17th century French Countryside, and a lovely canal district)
Aquaria (fantasy underwater mer-RP)

But there's lots and lots more out there! You'll no doubt have a good time looking for a home as the journey will take you across some of the most creative sims in SL.

I saw a very amusing one called Threnody Hollow. There, it's Halloween every day. The info card is hilarious.

Recuses himself from thread, on the basis of it veering too close to advertisement territory.

There are a lot of wonderful, themed small gems out there in Second Life!

Best of luck, sir.

*waves at Virrginia and Des*
I'm going to second Virrginia's list, and I'd like to add Beek Haven, they're a pirate themed sim, pretty strict RP, but stunning sim and a LOT of great ship oriented activities. Also SoHo is a nice little sim but it's been a long while since I last got to visit.

Thanks to all your replies I , or my alt rather, was able to purchase some land in a famous themed area. My alt will fit in with the theme better. It's very exciting.

I almost went with Threnody Hollow. What a nice build! I love all the colors and textures. I will certainly check out the others though as interesting places to visit.

I just want to say thanks to Weston for starting this thread. My 'places to visit' notecard just got quite a bit longer :)
