I'm not a frequent SL visitor, still with a basic account and logging in once in a while just to check out different builds, test a few textures I made, etc. simple stuff.
After several months of absence, for the last few days I've been logging in every evening and checking out dance clubs, social gathering type places, maybe to strike up a conversation and listen to some music.
Is SL empty?? Most of the clubs are completely empty. One or two have a bunch of drones in them but so many more are totally devoid of anyone, bots or a real avatars.
Even the newbie places like the Shelter and the Orientation Station have very few people around.
What's going on? I know there was a major change after gambling was banned, but has it emptied out SL completely? The last hour alone I've checked out about 5 places designed to host a lot of people with music, dance floors, lots of entertainment, etc, and they're all empty. Today is Monday but that's how it was last Fri, Sat and Sunday too.
Is the Search engine showing the places with least traffic first, maybe? I doubt it.
So, where is everybody?

Check out the Bear infohub. I hear that is where all the SLers hang out.
There was a zombie attack on SL a few months back. Most of the real players had their brains eaten by zombies and now they sit in chairs and on dance pads for pennies an hour. It is a desolate wasteland... Welcome back.

FYI, on Monday nights, there's usually a shindig at a place called Madhu's Cafe. The gig just finished (at 9 SLT), but the place was full of avies dancing, chatting...gooffing around..

Dude, have you not noticed the login numbers?? SL has been getting 50-60K people logged in consistently. They can't all be bots. Everywhere I go is crowded. Be it Ahern Welcome Area, Waterhead Welcome Area, Orientation Island, Help Island - all newbie/hang out areas and usually crowded when I visit.
As far as clubs, the ones catering to the music and not sploders are still thriving. As long as there's a good vibe and good music, people show up to hang out and dance. They don't need camp dance pads. Sorry, don't mean to bust your chops. To me, SL is quite packed with people. *Shrug*

Plenty of people at the Merry Prankster (Prankster Isle) on any given night.

From: Pablo Mazie To me, SL is quite packed with people. *Shrug* I don't have any reason to doubt you. But when I type "trance" or "chillout" or "dance" in the search box and I click the top 5 clubs on the list of places and they're all empty (except the couple with the drones) there's something wrong either with the search function or something else. I don't know -- I see the logged-in numbers and they are that high as you said, but how come so many places at the top of the search results are empty? Anyhow, thanks for the feedback.

Lots of the places at the top of the list are the zombie filled clubs, etc. It is best to go about 6 or so down the list and try there. NCI is still quite crowded. Blues clubs seems to be one of the big things right now. Doesn't sound like your genre of music, but there seems to be an active following of people at those clubs. Good luck.

When I go to places such as infohubs, or the NCI builds, there is usually plenty of people around.
The places with the highest traffice scores probably do include a large percentage of places where the bulk of the traffic is bots.
NCI has lots of builds, sometimes some of them are fairly empty but that doesn't mean they all are.
The bulk of SL's terrain has always been empty. Most of of SL's servers are spinning their wheels most of the time. That's not new, though.

I went to the Merry Prankster yesterday for a Relay For Life fundraising concert and it was great. Really good musician and lots of avies. I think you could try Search>Events>category>Support/Charities, you'll find loads of clubs hosting fundraising events at any given time. If you don't like the club or music at one, just teleport to the next one on the listing.

Where I go is often packed to capacity. This means when I crash I can't get back in, I get sent automatically somewhere else and then crash again YAY.

A lot of places don't have people unless they have events running. You would be better off checking the events calendar under Nightclubs or Live Music.

"Streets full of people, all alone Roads full of houses never home Church full of singing out of tune Everyone's gone to the moon
Eyes full of sorrow, never wet Hands full of money, all in debt Sun coming out in the middle of June Everyone's gone to the moon
Long time ago Life had begun Everyone went to the sun
Hearts full of motors painted green Mouths full of chocolate-covered cream Arms that can only lift a spoon Everyone's gone to the moon
Everyone's gone to the moon Everyone's gone to the moon.........."
