Selling an avatar?

A friend of mine is dropping of SL, and has an avatar that has a lot of money into it, and she'd like to sell the avatar/account if possible. Anything in the TOS against this?

why would she sell the Avatar ? She could always cash out the lindens.

Yes. She can give away her transfer items and her $L balance, but she can't sell her account or divulge her password to others according to the TOS.

From the TOS:

"2.4 Account registrations are limited per unique person. Transfers of accounts are generally not permitted.

Linden Lab may require you to submit an indication of unique identity in the account registration process; e.g. credit card or other payment information, or SMS message code or other information requested by Linden Lab. When an account is created, the information given for the account must match the address, phone number, and/or other unique identifier information associated with the identification method. You may register multiple accounts per identification method only at Linden Lab's sole discretion. A single account may be used by a single legal entity at Linden Lab's sole discretion and subject to Linden Lab's requirements. Additional accounts beyond the first account per unique user may be subject to fees upon account creation. You may not transfer your Account to any third party without the prior written consent of Linden Lab; notwithstanding the foregoing, Linden Lab will not unreasonably withhold consent to the transfer of an Account in good standing by operation of valid written will to a single natural person, provided that proper notice and documentation are delivered as requested by Linden Lab."

Sounds to me like you just have to ask permission first.

well thats what TOS says but i seen example of LLABS doing it anyways. Its their option to do so. If the AVIE is a Big Money spender player on SL they do it. Again its who you know and how much you give to LLABS that get you results.

I doubt they will allow the transfer of an account because the account holder wants to sell it. That's pretty much like the people who put up accounts for sale for MMOG's on ebay. Game publishers generally prohibit selling accounts and it would set a bad precedent to allow it.

They do.............why wouldnt they do it if someone is spending 1000.00(s) of real Monies in the game.......Wants it done. Its a business first to them.

It's done all the time..make sure theres an agreement between the two people and noone else knows. Keep your mouth shut. Trust is a big factor cause you have to trust them with the money you pay them while waiting for them to xfer the funds to their alt and then hope and pray they follow thru and give you the password to their account.((this is all hypothetical ofcourse)) also make sure all their friends are notified that their character is "no more"..not to be contacted because the friends list and groups will be swiped clean.

This isn't something you can go around telling everyone..if you do..ultimately you'll be forced to give the avatar up. I have seen this happen hypothetically...theoretically

Raymond I never said it was me..Usagi knows who I'm speaking of..I had a friend sell his avatar...the girl who bought it did so inorder for all of his objects to be transferred.

They gave the girl a certain amount of time to make sure that all transferrable items were transferred and ultimately took the avatar away. This girl was not me.

look, it can be done..rather than telling the OP it can't be..because of TOS. Maybe LL needs to figure out how to prevent it. It CAN be done

At the time this avatar was "sold" it was almost 2 years ago..I dont know how much the girl lost..but she (thinking she was doing a service)was honest and told everyone this isn't him..its me. People complained..ahe got ARd..and lost the account.

At the time she was told "nothing" could be done...period. Now I see they have stipulations on their own rules...well.."if"..this..or "if" that "then" which I find a little odd. 2 years later.

I just recently saw a post where someone posted the script for copy bot.

I guess thats not the same thing because copy bot is in fact sanctioned by LL?

and for the record I'm not trying to teach anyone how to circumvent the rules..but i'm not going to ignore the white elephant in the room either.((the fact it can be done..it's done all the time..like soo many other things against TOS))

I've played with the same thought, just because I wanted a certain name that's already been used.

I searched up the name inworld, appears to be a 2 year old avatar, not much played with. I was thinking: why can't I use that if we come to an agreement.....

Then I started to think about all possible things that can get wrong. First of all, I'm not a griefer. But how can the person selling an avatar know that? And even if the email, payment info and password can be changed, the other things as name, date of birth and adress is still intact in LL....for ever?

OK, I'm not a griefer or a thief. But how can I trust that the seller won't blackmail me? After using that new avatar some months, they want more money or threaten to AR me for violating the TOS. Then I will loose that bought avatar and maybe the Marianne Little avatar too....and just because I wanted a new name, not that I harmed anybody or played dirty tricks.

That appears a too big risk. So I guess I'm still Marianne Little for ever....
