Pretty Sure i have read somewhere (in the rules department) that accounts can be sold, but only in written agreement with LLabs ? * sorry dont feel like reading it all again ? * also it was before the updated TOS ? ----EDIT--- From: someone
2.4 Account registrations are limited per unique person. Transfers of accounts are generally not permitted.
Linden Lab may require you to submit an indication of unique identity in the account registration process; e.g. credit card or other payment information, or SMS message code or other information requested by Linden Lab. When an account is created, the information given for the account must match the address, phone number, and/or other unique identifier information associated with the identification method. You may register multiple accounts per identification method only at Linden Lab's sole discretion. A single account may be used by a single legal entity at Linden Lab's sole discretion and subject to Linden Lab's requirements. Around here when people don't pay their rent on a storage unit, the unit is reclaimed and the contents are sold at auction, often sight unseen - you buy them for cheap and hope there's something of value in there. Sometimes you can buy package deals - you get the contents of four or five rental units all at once.
I've thought it would be fun is LL did that with old accounts. If you don't log on for a year, your account is cancelled and whatever you have goes up for auction, sight unseen. If the buyer is lucky, there are enough transferrable items and lindens in the accounts to offset the price paid. If not, it was a bad gamble.
Just a thought that passed through my head. It's not a good one, but it's all I have for a Monday morning.

Heh, cool idea Trout!
Can you imagine all the alts/bots that haven't been used in a year, up for grabs? That would sort of suck, to get a trafficbot/alt that had never even been modified. But like, my mom's account; she hasn't logged in since day 2, and her inventory (what there is of it) is just sitting around. I'm sure she'll never use it again. It'd be cool to see her account active again, even if by someone else.

Totally agree it's best to keep this sort of thing a no-no though because it definitely would get out of hand. The aspect that first hit me was the whole bankrupt idea of buying a name. We've had a number of threads recently on the topic of our SL names. Our names are an important part of out identity. We can buy shapes, clothes, attachments and AOs. For many people their names are the only thing that have made for themselves in SL. "Chip Midnight" has an interesting ring to it. "3Ring Binder" .....  .... lots of others .... A 'good' name generally attracts good karma. It demonstrates thought and imagination. Even a less attention/humour-grabbing name will have some sort of a story. "Hey! Great name! ROFL  " ---------- "Oh. You bought it?" /me thinks "Ok Mr/Ms Didn't_even_have_enough_Your_World_Your_Imagination_to even_think_up_your_own_name Moron" --- Yawnnnnnnnnn. |
