Premade avatar with "second life password" so somebody is basically selling this account.

Second Life accounts are non-transferable aren't they? I'm sure Yahoo email accounts (part of the offer) are non-transferable too.

However LL will transfer accounts on request for a fee of one hundred dollars I think.

So theres a tiny chance it could be legit.

I've heard of the transfer for US$100 before too, back when I originally signed up. Not sure what the deal was but they were allowing some kind of change.

Dunno if they still do it, though...

OK, if any Charter Members who registered before June 2003 wish to sell their account, I will pay you $2000 USDollars and I'll absorb the $100 transfer fee. You just have to sort it with Linden Lab.

I can see it if someone was selling their business along with the account. Imagine how much work it'd be to have to rebuild everything that goes with a business. That's actually, the only reason I can think of for selling an account.

I hope this gets stamped on big-time.

What we will certainly end up with is avatar name-squatting - something like domain-squatting.
Someone can signup unlimited 'good'/'vanity' avatar names for free, and sell them.

One might argue that the seller is selling a value-added package.
That's a bogus argument.

The seller could more easily sell the entire package of avatar appearance, photo for Profile, etc in-world. - Everything except for the avatar name.

LL please nuke this before it gets out of hand.

I'm personally glad they included the account name to be sold. Pretty easy to get them banned that way.

SUppose its possible they didn't know =P

However, most MMO's and 'virtual worlds' have disallowed account transfer in general, so.. its not so likely they didn't know, but hey, who knows right?

But not for transferring anyone's actual personal "avatar" account.

Looked to me like an honest attempt to create a value-add service, not anything nefarious. Totally agree it's best to keep this sort of thing a no-no though because it definitely would get out of hand.

Oh ya. i remember that.

You can (or could) buy a custom surname for $100.
Like if KittyDragonPaw was a surname i simply must have... and didn't want it offered to just 'any old joe'. or.. if i desperately wanted to use my complete RL name in SL.. i could 'buy' it for $100

but.. that still wasn't allowing transfer of avatars... or inventory (although i WISH there was a way for legit alts to 'share' inventory...!! i mean alts that i signed up with the same RL credit card info - and name and all - i wish they could 'share' inventory!..)
