/me waves to all.

Hi Sandy. Quite a weekend eh?

Yes, I'm with Sandy too on the 'allotted time' thing. I have a weekday evening cut-off point of about 8.15pm. I've found personally that SL can so easily impact negatively on my RL - and left for a few weeks earlier this year because of that. I guess it's different for everyone but this works for me.

mornin' all :D

what's this RL thing your talking about?

I'm a multi-tasker...... as an example: last night I was at a music gig (where else), dancing, chatting and clapping away, in several IM conversations including the Forum Cartel group thingy (me waves at Oryx - who was also multi-tasking at the time :D), making a sign in my graphics programme, and browsing the forum for questions I might answer.

now my brain hurts

ETA : oh and I managed to have the occasional glass of lemo and some cookies

Hi Sandy, Kelly and Sally!
Sandy, sorry buddy, I meant to leave you Incanus' brick to wipe the bar with. Does the sponge remove the scratches? How high's the broken glass pile now?

Kelly, you just put me off Werther's .... for a few minutes anyway.

Sally, why are you making Oryx blush and still being 15 pages of backreading, did you find out about your 'apporth'?

In days of old when knights were bold and toilets weren't invented ... oops! wrong story! Ummm ... Once upon a time, there was a pound. This pound had twenty shillings. Now these shillings were bright little characters and each one commanded twelve hulking great pennies. Now armed with a pocket of pennies you felt like a millionaire ... or at least I did, walking into a sweetshop with them. Now these pennies in turn had two half-pennies or ha'pennies. Yorkshire or not, I think most of the British population called them ha'pennies. Now, one could buy say, two tins of paint, one a stonking shilling more expensive than the other .. but at the end of the day, the finished surfaces were so alike you couldn't detect a ha'penny worth of difference. Thus a ha'penny worth .. a'porth was rather small, ineffectual and made not a lot of impact. Calling someone an a'porth/apoth/apeth/whatever was thus .... derogatory but with familiarity, a term of endearment ... and yes, Mum (who did like to boast her Yorkshire roots) would call me such at times.

Did I say 15 pages? .. ho hum.

Uhm, Second Life /IS/ what I'm doing in real-life =P
I guess when I log-in I focus on what I'm doing in SL, I rarely do anything in SL that I can do while multi-tasking, things like building/scripting etc. require my attention.

I use a hardwired desktop. The room it is in has no other media device in it, no TV or stereo. Sometimes when logged on i will be doing other things, making dinner, laundry, following a sporting event, that will keep me afk at times. A lot of times I'm not doing much in world, I just stay logged on to prevent getting locked out. I usually have this forum up, or will sometimes read news or what not. It all depends on the situation.

So now... your mother called you a "silly a'porth", did she? I wonder what you were up to!
Something involving Werther's Originals maybe? Whatever it was Bilbo, I'm sure it was akin to a thread derailment. ;)

Er - no I don't mix SL and RL much - I focus.

Being a self confessed house work addict though, SL never gets in the way of that!!!!

Sandy, could you come to my house please? Since I signed on in June, it has definitely gone downhill!

I have a fantastic laptop that Jez bought for my birthday, it's super fast just like my desktop so means I can SL wherever and whenever. It helps me with my addiction.
( He actually bought it so I could play SL whilst recuperating from RL surgery- nice chap that he is)

I know quite a few avs who use their laptops in the kitchen-in fact a number were online whilst cooking their Thanksgiving meals, which was funny:)

Just the rotten, semen-stained underbelly that, like an iceburg of grot, makes up the bulk of Second Life underneath it's clean but paper-thin surface.

All that and your short-short story signature too? What medicine cabinet have you been getting into this time, Conan?

I see nothing untrue in either of them though.

Since we apparently feel like criticizing other people today, could you fix this?

From: someone
A hush descended across the forum. Ominously, the black shadow of the Res Mod loomed large over the forum as the hulking figure passed over head. The denizens of the forum lurked in there hiding places, not daring to breath lest they catch the creature's attention. Slowly, the towering mass passed over the forum, blotting out the sun as it floated off into the distance.

I also question the use of the word 'lurked.' It suggests we're up to something nefarious, despite the fact that the ResMod has been painted as the antagonist in this little tale. We should be cowering, huddling, quailing, or something along those lines.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Those are spelling errors, not grammatical errors.

LOL - Sally, your SL sounds like my SL. I usually have 2 or 3 IM conversations going, I'm dancing or shopping or something, I've got GIMP on in the background, maybe a window for the Forums, and if the streaming music stinks, the TV or radio playing.

When I log my alt on, I turn off all of the above, including the multiple IM's and just concentrate on her.

lol I usually have my commo tab filled and then some with IMs (Ongoing and stale until I realize there are stale), building, talking with one/both of my girls, wings and/or rokuro in the background as well as photoshop, the forums, youtube for music, and probably some MSN or YIM IMs

I guess I find it easier then because I ignore most IMs anyway.

I honestly can't conceive of how you manage to pull this off. It's like some kind of alien magic. I can handle sitting in a chair in SL, completely ignoring ope chat while I have two IM windows open. If I have to move around, I can handle chat, plus one IM. Even that is painful for me. I'm just not cut out to multitask. Three or more IM windows and I just crumble.

For everyone who has tried to talk to me in-world and been ignored, I'm really sorry - it's not intentional.

As for RL stuff - beyond eating and watching tv, I don't do much else. I've been known to play some poker online while I'm on SL, (I officially deny ever playing online poker), but if it gets down to three-handed, I usually excuse myself from SL until the game ends.

To be fair my example from last night was an extreme case, but yeah certainly at live music events where there's not much chat going on the multi-tasking can be very useful. If I'm around somewhere more social I tend to keep the eyes focused on one screen though.
Don't have a TV.

And still wondering what unspeakable evil I committed to make you blush :( I appologise in retrospect.

Nope. They're grammar errors because they mean something else that way. ALL of them. Believe me, I'm marking translation exams at the moment and stuff like that will get you grammar mistakes, not mere spelling mistakes. :D

And hm, treadmill? You didn't, by chance, try to emulate the SL grid hamster, btw? Did SL crash while you were running? :D

I sometimes use SL in the garden, smoking a sheesha, drinking tea, and reading or marking exams. If that counts as multitasking. Well at least I do it until my connection gets killed or my laptop gets too hot.
