This forum here Resident Answers is the closest thing we have to a forum where you can talk about anything. But as you know they will immediately close the thread if you do talk about other things as they act so fridgid in certain matters.
In just about any on-line game they always have a forum for discussions whether they're related to game or not. All except this one. The thing that gets me is this is an adult game played by adults. Yet, like a thread I was just reading, which dealt with sl sex they closed it right away.
Are they trying to keep us from hurting ourselves? Granted this forum is for answers but there are many different subjects like the one they just closed that deal with the reality of what goes on in sl, so why act so sensitive?
But they won't add another forum for this, if anything, they took out many of the forums that were here before. Just as they've taken out many other useful things in sl that many people benefitted from.
You just have to love these guys, they're so concern for us sl residents. And I say this from the bottom of all my sarcasm.

In before the lock. Second Citizen is calling you. No frigidity there and very few rules. If we don't play by SOME rules here, we will lose the last LL sponsored forum for back and forth discussions. I don't mind taking my general topic discussions elsewhere to keep this forum alive. And if you read around a bit, which you have I'm sure, you can see they are actually pretty forgiving when threads are started here that really aren't RA appropriate.

I agree with you Raymond, but i thought Second Citizen was closed? Cole, I understand where you are coming from, but i also see that the thread *had* become a discussion and not answers. Strife was probably right to close it, but i have seen others go on a lot longer before the dreaded lock, and get much nastier. love, imogen

If you read Torley's sticky, entitled "About this forum", and then take a gander through all the threads on Resident Answers, you'll realize pretty quickly that things are pretty liberal 'round here as it is. Resident Answers is not, and never has been, a forum "where you can talk about anything".
As for adult discussions, all well and true, but misses the fact that according to the Community Standards, the forums are considered "PG" areas of Second Life. Profanity, as well as discussions of an "adult" nature, are technically not allowed here.
Their house. Their rules.

There are a LOT of threads here that are not strictly answers and that are quite critical of Linden Lab, that go on for pages before they get locked. Including about sex. I am not sure why Strife was so quick on this one, but in general I think this forum is moderated pretty tolerantly.

I tried another forum on a web site called SL Universe, but it is slow, graphic heavy, and not very active. So I slip and forget about this forum being help related. Generally a question is asked here and I try to answer it and I consider that a resident answer since I am a resident. I don't pay much attention to whether it's a question for help or a question asking for an opinion.
Guess I should try Second Citizen, because there really are a lot of interesting things to discuss that aren't about how to open a box in SL, you know?
I do feel the posts in the thread that just got closed, although frank, were less prurient than prime time TV here in the US, but rules are rules. Just wish there was a handy place to discuss what we want.

It's bizarre. A forum is for discussion. If Linden Lab doesn't like people discusing then they shouldn't provide a bloody discussion forum!

we used to have a more liberal choice of topics - But LL in their infinite wisdom elected to close all the offical discussion forums on 9-11-06 Actually I heard the general forums hurt some Linden's feelings. I guess they wanted an online game where they were free from negative criticism. I think that at least has been realized to be impossible. There will always be negative criticism involved when you tinker with activities people spend large amount of their time involved in. See what would happen if they moved Closing time for you local bar up 1 hour ------------ Anyhow this forum is the direct decendant of the old General Forum - it even holds the same basic Location from the main forums page. It literally involves the same amount of scrolling and clicking to get to. I have no idea why it didnt get burried way down at the bottom once the Lindens saw what was happening.

From: Weston Graves I tried another forum on a web site called SL Universe, but it is slow, graphic heavy, and not very active. Possibly you tried it before Cristiano switched forum software. It seems quite rapid to me, and I believe the traffic has increased a great deal compared to what it was beforen forums.SLUniverse's switch to vBulletin software. I'd recommend those who haven't tried the SLUniverse forums for a few months give it a try, you might like the new version.

Regrettably, we lost a great deal when the forums were cut back, but I can understand why they were modified. Good people with good questions came here in order to get information and instead got a helping of criticism and ridicule. It was rather like having the neighbourhood rude boys hanging out in front of the drugstore. Heckling, abusing, and creating an environment that was meaner than the grid. Furthermore, they turned on each other quite frequently, kicking up so much dust that one could barely find anything useful for all the mud slung around. Eventually, the Company said "Git off mah lawn!" and that was that. It was never about abusing the Company. They are quite open to criticism. Doubt it? Watch this. "Linden Research, Inc., I think it's a stupid decision to raise the monthly cost of the older 195/mo sims. Sincerely, Desmond." Nothing's gonna happen to me for that. The forum was modified because some customers started abusing other customers here. Honestly, if you are just seeking help, or are new, a 'thick skin' should not be required. It was getting a little too Lord-of-the-Flies, and they solved the problem. So if there is anyone to get mad at for the restrictions here, it would be the people who had so little self control that they made such enforcement necessary. * * * * * If you are interested in no-holds-barred second life discussion, I'd say secondcitizen.com is the place. Disagreements with my attempt at a resident answer here will be met with poise, civility and respect. On secondcitizen however... let's rock.

I locked the thread on sex because it is a classic trolling topic. Some topics never, ever end well. All someone has to do is mention furry, gor or the bible and the topic goes south fast. Now its not within the ResMod charter to keep people metaphoricaly safe from themselves but it is to keep things on topic. We give quite alot of leway on topics allowed (it's complex to explain) but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

Sad but that was the case. But that's the case in every virtual world - forums are always a tiny subset of the wider population. And the wider population is mostly clueless about what goes on in the forums.
