Trouble is in my opinion is that LL allows BOTs, campers etc. etc. as it looks good for their figures and while BOTs etc. are legal in SL they will continue and probably grow as people seek new ways to make money in SL as they have heard the the prim streets are paved in gold.

LL will deal with it at some point in time but why bother as we are all LL BETA testers and they need the BOTs etc for better load testing while we pay the bills for them to experiment with the software and buy the hardware for them. What other companies have people paying them for a service that keeps failing all over the place and we all accept it and continue paying while others say what a fantastic job LL does lol

Glad we have downsized to a level that makes here cheap for the RL business

Only in SL eh? :)

There's no greater marketing tool than a story about free sex.

Sex sells and its good to know SL is becoming the new 3D adult world as we were going to take the RL business to another adult only VR but it was to pricey and now SL is fast becoming what all the adult businesses want in a virtual world ;) So glad its happened before we downsized operations here to much lol

Maybe the whole story was a LL marketing tool ;)

I'm sure we're not the only ones who gave that at least a passing thought.....

Hmn. Well. I can't picture SL becoming nothing but XXX---too many laws to run afoul of, all over the world.

But on the other hand, I don't see it becoming a new outpost of Disney, either.

Probably something in between is what it will remain; there's always a market for 'adult' stuff, but there's a larger market for things beyond mere rapic muscular contractions in the pelvic area (nice though those undoubtedly are).

I agree with you there and I hope that the happy medium is reached somewhere along the line as at times we enjoy SL for the creativity that is here, not that we need poseballs anymore as we met in SL and have now been living together for nearly 18 months in RL :) So SL has got its good points lol

I've been at two clubs in the last two days that were filling up with brand-new newbies, registered on the day. They weren't bots, they were mostly chatty, saying things like 'What's this place?', 'How do I dance?' and 'How do I make my legs shorter?'

If thousands of bots and campers are able to stay in the world, while hard-$L-paying residents that rent land can't get in - well, we've got a serious, serious problem here.

I wonder who really needs to foot the bill for all this excessive resource usage I've been hearing about (and about to pay for) lately.

Desmond,
However I can well understand the feeling of not being able to login, while thousands of bots are online, I do not think they are related at all. Without wanting to make this another bot thread: I doubt that removing all bots would solve the problem of concurrency, as the bots do not use much resources at all.

On the other hand, if this happens more often (like it did in the past) I would say this is another reason to do something about the bots. Finally remove search places, and make clear that traffic does not influence Search All. Which would remove 90% of all traffic bots overnight, I would think.

Whether that solves the concurrency issue is not that important. It would at least make the user that cannot login feel better. Traffic bots do form a problem in SL, and it is a problem that is very esy to solve. Just not very high on the LL priority list, as they seem to like the concurrent users figure too much
SO getting back to my first paragraph: getting rids of traffic bots would probably not solve the concurrent users problem, but it would at least solve the feelings around the problem.
