From: Trout Recreant Plus, since I'm an American, I can stockpile guns now before the new leadership makes them illegal (points at the UK and laughs).
Points at the US murder rate and laughs /me ducks for cover... THAT WAS A JOKE... DO NOT START A GUNFLAMEFEST!!! lol Seriously I'll add my twopennorth.... Shortly to have 12 sims, about US$10,000 invested in SL so far. Managing to turn a small profit if I ignore the cost of buying the sims to date. If I include the cost, I am soooo deep in a hole - but I have always regarded it as "sunk" costs i.e. if I get it back eventually it would be nice. But I recognised from the start that my business model was up against some serious competition, coming late to the market so to speak (about a year now) - and living in the UK one has the added complication of VAT. Fortunately I have a US based partner so we get round much of the additional tax burden that way (legally lol). So I spend an inordinate amount of time dealing with content creation, tenant management, etc etc etc... to help with tier, all of which I enjoy. But the return on my time spent here, measured in just financial terms and compared to my RL income, is just laughable. And it does have an effect on one's RL - I am typing this at 2am and have to be up and functioning at 6 am.... but there are too many others who would recognise this so no pleading for pity strokes here! Unless you have a blow-away business concept, expect to work HARD for your ROI and don't ever expect it to match or exceed what you could do with it in RL terms. Just sit back and enjoy - SL has been one of the most enjoyable and personally involving places for me and I have a met a wonderful woman through here who makes me complete. That alone is worth every penny and more I have put into SL. Inc

Just another example why it might be prudent to look for someplace other than LL to invest your time and money... /327/66/255394/1.html

You would do better to put it in a RL slot machine, in my opinion.

i think that the pioneers of SL are the ones who made the profits from the game, initially, but i imagine even their profit margins have thinned with so many new creators, landbarons, etc.
the time of making a killing in SL has passed, UNLESS you can come up with something new and exciting that hasn't been done yet.
i expect the REALLY untapped markets lie in sophisticated scripting and animations, both things that require a lot of patience and time.
i would love to see a whole new market of fluid animations.

Had everything planned awhile back. Before LLABS started their internal drama BS......If I were your I take that money and invest in RL safer investments Like I did. NEVER trust a company that puts Uncontrolable people incharge of community that can`t handle stress or how to commicate with its user base. The Lack Of class 101 social interaction is what the need to take, to understands and build trust and sence of community.

From: Isablan Neva Honey..only a fool invests money in somebody they don't trust. Heed the mystic. From: Chris Norse Buy rice, silver, guns, ammo, water purification devices, and batteries. Heed the crimson-necked Norseman. ...and most of all heed Desmond Shang, owner of the Caledon Sims. He's not just somebody w/ a big signature, go look him up in-world. He comes from the "old school". ...just like when folks sell "Gold" from MMORPGs n EBay...this economy is NOTHIN like the one we're used to, AND it's all owned by LL. Like a few folks have said, if u need to ask this question, u ain't ready. (not that you necessarily ever will be, or LL for that matter)

Take the $5000 and give it to the first tech that can stabilize the grid and fix all the borkage.
