From: Danielle Harrop I haven't met a "kind" explorer on any of my properties who was "just looking around" It's ALWAYS been a greifer. That's really sad to hear. I have just the opposite. Nice people come by my place all the time. They sit by my lagoon, stop to chat and look around and compliment my place. If I'm busy I tell them so and to make themselves at home and they do. Never any problems. I know I'm one of the lucky ones but it's sad to hear that you've never had anyone kind stop by.

I had some weirdo IM me for clicking on his door a month ago.
Having a door keep logs and then personally harass everyone that happens to wander past and click on it is a bit . . . odd.

6 seconds is way too short. 10 seconds is what seems to be the most popular and sometimes that is too short. One lag spike or bump into something that rezzed in front of your exiting flying path and poof! your being sent home. Of all the ones I despise, I hate the one I encounter frequently near my land that sends you to your home location instantly, no mercy included.

Sounds like they were a couple of nut cases. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

As long as there is a policy whereby anyone flying by my skybox (one-way windows, 500m up, private tp pad, landing point) and seeing something (in their opinion) broadly offensive, which LL repeatedly repeatedly refuses to clarify when presented with specific questions, can snap a photo and get me and my friends banned with no transparency or appeals, there will be a very powerful and rude security ejection orb on my land. I'd say "sorry" but it would be a lie. Blame me if you want. I don't care. People flying by and exploring will have an extremely low priority on my personal land rules, with so much personally at risk.

From: Adz Childs ...500m up... Far, far better than the security orbs located 25m above ground level, with a 50m radius set...on a 1024sq/m plot... Nothing like wandering along a strip of Linden maintenence land and getting TP'd home before being able to blink by these kinds of set-up's...

Hehe yes... i get alot of newbs exploring the ground level where i have a nice picnic area and spongebob's house and a swimming area...on a linden road... no banlines or security orbs. that would just be cruel. if i see a visitor on the ground i usually go down and say hi.

The only really odd experience I had was a few days ago when someone that was hanging around on the sim (private sim, rented house, orb, no biggie) sent me a picture of me in my house. I dont care if someone is exploring around the house, but to cam in, take a pic and then send it to me. Wha? He IMd me after and I just told him 'Look, its kind of odd to be peeking inside of peoples houses, try not to do that anymore' and I never heard from him again. Some people honestly dont think that private houses are private so it leads them to be far too paranoid, its sad but true. I meet a lot of nice people that are just wandering around looking at the available houses on the sim too though. Maybe I should start chasing them around

Had an experience like the OP's a number of months ago. visited a sim mentioned in the forums. Default tp spot was inside an orb's perimeter - by the time you rezzed you were a second or two away from being tp'd home. Found by trial and error the northwestern corner of the sim was accessible. After a minute or two had a pair of avatars IM'ing me - who are you and what are you doing here? Nearly every parcel was locked down with ban lines or orbs.
Turns out the neighboring sim was a nest of griefers, who had a sort of HQ there, and all these people were being endlessly griefed. So, if an unknown avatar showed up, it was presumed to be a griefer unless proved otherwise.
If you go wandering around in SL and visiting unknown sims, you never know what you're going to find. Sometimes, it's the Riviera; sometimes, it's the DMZ. Just comes with the territory - if I were the OP I wouldn't worry about it.

I am not quite sure what sort of reaction he expected. "Oh thank you, I'd forgotten what I looked like - here, have L$1000"?

"Oh thank you, I'd forgotten what I looked like - here, have L$1000"? lol I have no idea what he expected me to say but it felt odd to have some random person sending me a pic of me in my own house. He TPd away before I even knew he was there but he had chat on in the pic so I could see he had to work his way around my orb to get as close as he could since my studio 'whispers' could be seen. I like to explore as much as anyone, but I try and give people who are in their homes a wide path of privacy.

From: Beezle Warburton You can AR anything that TP's you with less than a 10 second warning. No you can't. Where does it say you need at least 10 seconds before being taken out of someones private place? Bottom line is if it's your place you have the right to invite and reject anyone you like. There's no such thing as a timetable for this. Come to my place uninvited and you'll see just how fast I'll send you in reverse. It'll make 10 seconds look like an hour. Talking in general here.

From: Arkantos Nightfire Hello all, Yesterday, i was travelling searching for lands in sale in Dreamland and i found some nice group of islands, when suddenly while i was flying appeared the typical message of some Orb security device: "This is a restricted land, you have 6.00000000 seconds to leave this land or you will be exterminated". I tried to fly out of the property but was big and before leave it i received a ban. 3 seconds later appeared a couple (man and woman) flying and the man shouted me: who are you? why you are here? what do you want? I don't understand what's the problem with the people. I understand if you want privacy, but this is paranoid. Those guys were watching every move inside their land, thats why they appeared in 3 seconds. Well, my question is: there's any real reason to be paranoid in SL? if i have a house, the robbers can enter and steal your furniture or jewels? the unique reason that i know is when you dont want people using your stuff, but i think that with a basic security system is enough. Probably would be a good business creating devices for paranoid avis. I saw once an ED-209 in SLX (the huge robot in the first movie of Robocop). If that's the case i want my own Terminator to protect my shop ("hasta la vista baby" . I know right? Some guy sells a "devil" to kick people out of your home area after a warning, but apparently it looks like crap. I'm sure somebody will come up with a temp on rez 6 foot flying Beelzebub next, which would be so entertaining, it would actually drive the land traffic up.

If that's the case i want my own Terminator to protect my shop ("hasta la vista baby" . I agree. this isnt the real world. People cant harm your land or property. And when you do need some privacy the option to enable the 'invite only' option is there until after your pixel sex or whatever. People want to wander around my land when im not there, so what? If I have the proper options disabled on my land there is nothing to fear. I infact take some pride people WANT to check out my keep and land. *shrugs* And when I do need some privacy as I said, its just one check box away for those times until I am done with whatever. Again this isnt the real world and there is nothing to fear, not like I have to change the sheets on my bed every time I go home... lol

I recall that Dreamland was recently the subject of a prolonged and rather intense griefing, and these folks may have been near the center of it. I don't blame them, not when you look at it through those glasses. It's like Ricardo, learning to shoot first and ask questions later. But coming out and yelling at someone... wow, the griefing must have been pretty bad.
