Over the last couple of weeks or so I've found it increasingly difficult to apply/adjust textures. When I click on an object to adjust or select a texture from file, the texture panel takes ages to appear (sometimes up to a couple of minutes). Previously it was like the colour panel, more or less instantaneous. Makes building a pretty frustrating business.

I could understand this on some location where lag is a big problem, but this is happening on an island that has little to no lag at all. Anyone else finding this or has anyone got a possible solution..?

I'm going to clear my cache before I log out tonight to see if that helps.

It's part of the current client, and the RC as well. LL was told about the problem through the JIRA when this client was in its RC phase, but they pushed it out anyway. Go LL.

I've been experiencing this for a while now. It's gotten to the point where I try to be efficient and not close the texture window unless I absolutely have to. *sigh*

Maybe they are having problems finding the right floppy discs now with all the duplicated /redundant textures clogging the asset server :P

Im having a terrible time uploading textures, it always says network problems, try again later. Then I log off and on again and they are in my inventory and the money has been taken out of my account. I realised this one day a few weeks ago when trying to upload a texture, I tried five times, then logged out and I was on my account and I was charged five times for it, logged in again and had five of the same copy. So now I just log off and on again and they are there, its really weird and very time consuming.. Anyone else having that problem?

Yes, textures are taking ages to load when building, I really wonder if LL is trying to discourage us from applying textures to anything.

*nods* I loathe using the texture window now. It's slow and unwieldy, which made me want to scream yesterday, because I was trying to apply a texture that the side of a prim hadn't taken even though I applied it to all sides. BTW, I found the texture FASTER with the inventory search feature. That should really tell you something.

And people think I'm joking about learning new curse words just for building in SL.

Glad (not really) to see its not just me, I started using (again) the latest client yesterday after I saw I could mirror sculpties, but wow, the mirror is not worth it for the time I have to wait to apply a texture, is there a jira or anything for this? I'm going to uninstall and reinstall an older version as I cannot build anything, the waiting for the texture window just makes me not want to create!

Its pretty much always been this bad since lets say 2007.
Choosing a texture is now a chore as if you select any more than say 10 prims at a time its like watchning a little slide show as each of them randomly shifts around i get this with pretty much all texture parameters including glow, shiny and transparency just makes building all the less efficient but you simply have to get on with it and work in.

What i have noticed only recently however is even the default prim texture takes a few seconds to go from grey to rezzed which is new for me..

That is not cursing it is creative use of language while being creative in SL.. ;)

Though it is not nice to wish your problems on others, it is always a comfort to find that others are experiencing the same thing and it is not just something gone wrong in your own setup/connection.

Does anyone know if the number of textures in inventory, with or without the library has any impact on the time this takes -- or total number of inventory objects in general?

ETA: And do any of the third party viewers help? I have been using LL RC lately, but I think I will go back to some of the older LL and other viewers and keep notes.

I SOOOOOO hate this too... I tried clearing cache and it did not help :(

I reverted back to the reg (non RC) client
did not help

GRRRR I so hate that....

what I do now (when I remember) is search the texture in inventory (if I know what specific texture I want) then just drag and drop it to the texture window in the edit menu

littleme not sure if the amount of textures in inventory make a different

I will log with an alt and see if it does it on her too and report back here to let you know (new alt, low low inventory heh)

re: textures on a newb

I just logged in on my alt, she has barebones inventory (in otherwords exactly what we start with)

and the texture window popped up immediately

so I am wondering... does it relate to how many textures we have in inventory?

(I have thousands of textures... so maybe it is time to start cleaning them out and sorting and storing them)

edited to add

I put together a little script that will allow me to cycle through textures in a prim by clicking the prim (changes the texture on the prim) that when left idle defaults back to the specified texture (in this case my logo) and usable by owner only... so others can not cycle and lift my textures via a snapshot...

me thinks it is time I started using it to clean out my textures LOL

only one more thing I want to add to it, and that is a click... hold.. to retrieve the currently displayed texture

I have an old account that has a huge inventory, but practically no textures, so I will check that account against one that has pretty much only tons of textures.

cool
will be interesting to find out the results

I am beginning to think it relates to how many textures we have in inventory, which would make sense as it would need to "load" them all

textures sorted so far

359

(assorted prims, trying to categorize them,.. ugh)

question... is there a number of textures that are too many to put in a prim?

I have never tried so not sure LOL

I am not worried about the time to cycle through them... just wondering if there is a limit as to how many can go in a prim.

I am sorting them into the prim, then deleting them from inventory (but not deleting trash until I take copies of the texture loaded prims)

has anyone else ever done this (sorted textures into prims?)

I have a LONG way to go, my texture folder must be hitting 10K easy :(

one thing though I will be able to get rid of a lot of dupe textures from freebie packs

Rha, if they're full-perm textures, don't put them in a prim. That takes ages.

Notecard them :)

You can write on the notecard what they are, and notecarding textures has added bonuses: you don't have to rez and unpack a whole prim (or dig through a prim's inventory) to find one or two textures, and with a notecard you only have to click to load the texture, then you can re-save it to inventory for use, and delete it when you're done.
