Oh - I forgot - one more picture. I fell down the stairs this morning - slide from the third step to the bottom, resulting in the worst and largest bruise that colored up faster than any I have ever had:



That is on the side and back of my upper thigh and hurts like hell whenever I sit down or stand back up.

OUCH...holy cow, that looks painful. :( Um...ice?

sounds like a rupture of something more than capillaries. (I am NOT a doctor). But if the coloration continues to grow, or you experience shakes/shivers/chills get to a hospital. If it's a major vessel ruptured the internal bleeding can be a big problem.

Thanks for that info - I probably would not have thought anything unless I started getting the shakes or shivers - not worried about the color spreading. Since part of it is high on the back of the thigh, it is harder for me to see real well, so I have had hubby looking at it a lot. The size of the area of color does not seem to be growing past what it was at mid-morning or lunch time, just the coloring itself getting a more impressive purple - and the overal lump size is probably about the size of my fist, but that is not getting any bigger either.

if nothing's getting bigger, that's a good thing. You're prolly beyond the time frame where ice would do much. If you get any numbness in your foot a heat pad could restore circulation. But it could retrigger swelling/bleeding too, so only if need be and keep an eye. Persistent numbness is a sign of deeper trouble.

since it stopped getting bigger on its own, I figured the only good that ice does is numb the area a bit, but that is good enough cuz otherwise it smarts pretty good - an almost constant throbbing, and most definitely not a good kind of throbbing.
