Ya, I can agree with that.

I am a conservative and usually vote republican, but I do hope he can deliver and be the new JFK he is supposed to be. And even tho I am not a religious man, I pray that he is given the wisdom he needs for the office. Now is not a good time for ANYONE to be stepping into that position. Whether we voted for him or not he will be our president and he needs our support if we all are going to pull ourselves out of this crisis or risk falling farther into war and economic ruin.

(Along time ago I bought my husband a silk, short sleeve shirt- really nice, in woodland colors, almost camo... every year i wrap it up and put it back under the tree... it still has tags on- nope- won't do silk!) I'm getting this a lot.

Believe it or not, I'm not an "alt";(?), I'm just me.

OK- I don't know if it's true or not about Sarah Palin's wardrobe -but please, do any of you really know anyone, man or woman that short of homeless really wears shoes that worn out? Trust me- I am not making the kind of bux to even breathe Neiman Marcus air and my shoes mostly come from PayLess - but I do not own one pair with holes in them. And neither do my kid or husband and they are guys- meaning you practically have to drag them kicking and screaming to buy clothes and shoes... so- to me the pic screams set-up whether Palin's clothes thing was true or not.
:o The few pairs of shoes I have left are pretty shabby. It's largely because I just don't like shopping. But also because when I do want to buy something it's likely not to be clothes.

Could be, but we also(well should say I) don't know at what stage that photo was taken during His campaign. Staged or not, He just doesn't strike me as a guy who really cares about fashion. just what's comfortable.
Photo shopped was my first thought, but I doubt if Mr. Obama had anything to do with it.

Good for you. If enough people can take this attitude I think there might be some hope.

edited to clarify: I mean enough people everywhere on the political spectrum.

I own a skirt that actually has the date stamped on it.. Limited, they did that - I can honestly say to some yunguns', "I have clothes older than you!" If it were up to me, I wd buy electronic dodahs over clothes :)

Don't know the man well enough to make that call, but I sure as hell hope not! Hell- politicians surprise us ever day, or they don't which is worse.

We have to- goes right along with, "My country, right or wrong" and "United we stand, divided we fall". It's the beauty of the political system in countries that have elections- the failures and the success both have a finite terms, so neither side gets a prolonged chance to screw it up so badly the other side can't (hopefully) fix it.

It has been a long week. Maybe Santa can drop off some Christmas spirits early for me.

Congratulations and shame on you!

You are so right. On the one hand we can accomplish more with hope than distrust but on the other at this point what reasonable person isn't a bit cynical?

Not my politics, but I thought this might entertain (some of you):

In case anyone is interested, here is the website of the Obama photo essay by Time photographer Callie Shell. You will find the Obama photo among the collection. Here is the explanation about the shoes:

"Senator Obama was doing press interviews by telephone in a holding room between events. Sometime later as he was getting ready to begin his event, he asked me if I was photographing his shoes. When I said yes, he told me that he had already had them resoled once since he entered the race a year earlier. Providence, R.I., 3/1/2008."

she didn't BUY those clothes. they were given to her to USE and then they were returned. she did not ask for them, they were offered. she accepted using some, but most were ignored. she has her own set of clothes that she wore for most of her campaign.

i am very frugal. i wear my shoes until they are unwearable... and even then usually one more round until the duct tape wears off. i think it gives me character (and then i can afford to pay for that freakin expensive college textbook).

Mr. Heinlein wrote, "Love your country, distrust your government" or words to that effect- forgive me if I misquote but I couldn't find it just now. You have to be cynical- you cannot blindly trust anyone with that much power. Anarchy would be best if we could but govern ourselves. Sadly, that is not an easy undertaking.

What sort of items? The sort that money can't (usually) buy? Do tell.

Pep (I might offer to stay away from the forums for $1L a minute . . .)

Mostly clothes, but some jewelry, shoes, and possibly a women's skin as well. :)

But is it really cynicism? For most of my lifetime at least,t hey have done absolutely nothing to inspire my trust and confidence. The current cabal of commissars is probably the worst in my opinion, even if The Man in The Oval Office does want to do the right thing, he has his work cut out for him with those thieves.

oooooooooooooooooooo! I have been fortunate and been able to see so much in my life but just saw another place to add to the "Must see before I die list". In fact waaaaay up at the top of the list. Even though I am an amateur Astronomer, I have only been able to see the Northern Lights one time in my life and have always wanted to make it far north to see them right. Just say this one single sentence in an article from CNN that paints such a vivid picture:

"A warmer way to enjoy the northern lights is a shallow, natural rock lake at Chena Hot Springs outside Fairbanks, Alaska, which allows bikini-clad guests to enjoy the lights in temperatures of 106 degrees Fahrenheit."

None the less the sentences that follow such as: "Having sex under the northern lights -- it's an awesome experience," Karl said. "Have you ever been out in nature at 35 below zero with northern lights bouncing over your head and your bare ass? Well, you need to try it."
