He whistled a tune to the window,
And who should be waiting there,
But the landlord's black-eyed daughter,
Bess, the landlord's daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love knot into her long black hair...

My dad used to read us all these when we were kids. I still love them.

Most of my knowledge of these comes from Anne Of Green Gables :o lol

Which was, of course, another classic, in its way. The Anne of Green Gables series, Nancy Drew, and The Black Stallion were the mainstays of my childhood. :)

i'm sure there are real people in the real world who think that (and things like tuna casserole) are the delish. i'd still consider it a compliment, especially if it can be proven that they actually intake that crap... errr.... recipe.
Hey!!!! I like tuna noodle casserole.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

All of the guys in the US should be popping in now that Victoria's Secret just ended on tv.

I've got the poem "The Cremation of Sam McGee" stuck in my head.

"There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee."

(That's just the preamble... the rest is a great poem.]
Back in the days before mass media people who recite poems like this were major entertainers for their family and friends. Back when I was a very young bartender I had a pretty old customer who could recite "Sam McGee" in a way that was still pretty entertaining.

damn! Now I'm thinking poetry and have The Highwayman stuck in my head :/
Reciting poetry was a talent of my mom's, too. She often did the Highwayman for me when I was a kid.

You are the third person today to whom I have had to say "It's OK, really!" and I am more than happy to throw in a hug.

Pep (When there is no obvious problem that requires a solution, just hug)
Dammit! This wasn't meant to be posted with the *mean* alt! Sorry for shattering your delusions, all.

Actually, I retract that apology. If you can't cope with the multi-faceted ambiguity of reality then what are you doing here. Or more to the point, what am I?

And don't worry, normal service will be resumed as soon as possible after this lapse.

Pep (So now all you fat, alcoholic, tree-hugging, cat-licking, Gorean wannabee, breakdown-recoverees and your pimps can carry on as normal)

PS No need to congratulate me on post 1,000; it is a false count.

Slowly England's sun was setting oe'r the hilltops far away,
Filling all the land with beauty at the close of one sad day;
And its last rays kissed the forehead of a man and maiden fair,--
He with steps so slow and weary; she with sunny, floating hair;
He with bowed head, sad and thoughtful, she, with lips all cold and white,
Struggling to keep back the murmur, "Curfew must not ring to-night!"
