We were predicted to possibly break a record today in Denver -- forecast was for 78-80 (not sure what we actually hit). And we are expected to have a high of 38 with snow on Thr. I just love the weather swings.

David Moxon subjected 40 men and women to the sounds of a Maserati, Lamborghini and Ferrari, then measured the amount of testosterone in their saliva. He found everyone had higher levels of the stuff -- a measure of their arousal -- after hearing the revving exotics, but the amount the women had was off the charts. .... ![]() _____________________

So wow, I just saw the newest trailer for Star Trek. You can watch it at http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/
It looks very good to me. Awesome, in fact. It looks like somebody took a normal Star Trek movie and sprayed Nerd-B-Gone all over it, and it morphed into this movie. It certainly looks much better than any other star trek movie that's been released in, say, the past 15 years. And I think I'm going to watch it when it comes out. Also, it seems to me that the consensus of "normal" Star Trek fans is that the film is a travesty and an affront to fans, which just makes me think I'll like it even more. Who knows, I might become a Star Trek fan again after this movie. _____________________

Yeah, about a month or so ago I was out shopping with my better half and I saw the flight suit. I immediately thought of Brenda so I bought her a copy. /me blushes. It's manly to buy flight suits, right? I was not looking at the lingerie section. Ok, I was looking .... but I did not try anything on. I swear! Yes it was awfully sweet to do that. ![]() |

I hope there is a semi literate story, and it's not just a gee whiz lucas type affair. There is some inteesting casting. Something Lucas-ian would hardly be the effect of Nerd-B-Gone, would it? Well, I've learned a few things, but if you're not trying to learn anything until you see it, I won't spoil it for you. What I WILL tell you, is that it seems to have all the basic and IMPORTANT stuff down "right". The things which are different, are things which really don't matter and would have no repercussions on the universe if they were different. I mean, really silly minutae. That's one of my biggest problems with (most) star trek fans, and even star wars fans. The new movie might, for instance, give Spock a size 11 shoe; fanatics will absolutely freak and denounce the movie for "breaking canon", because in Next Generation episode 87, at the 32 minute mark, Ensign Nobody and Lieutenant Archetype are having a conversation, which is basically just time filler and is completely nonessential to the plot of that episode, or any other episode, and Ensign Nobody mentions that Spock's shoe size was 13. Most normal people would forget about this (including the writers, who have regularly ignored previous little filler factoids when they need something to happen); but not fanatics. They carefully catalog every single one of these little notes to fill their little encyclopedias and "technical manuals" (snerk). They think themselves important because they are able to tell you authoritatively what Spock's shoe size is. They take all this inconsequential non-information as biblical, unchallenged fact, and balk when writers overlook it later, and say something different, and make them realize that maybe they aren't so authoritative after all. It's bad enough in episodes; it's even worse in a feature film, where the fanatics will view such a thing as an inconsistency in Spock's shoe size as a genuine and catastrophic breach of continuity that "ruins the whole movie" for them. OK, so no, Spock's shoe size doesn't figure into this movie per-se; but from what I've seen and heard, the differences are just as trivial. I think it's going to be the best one ever. Course, I gotta wait till May to know for sure. _____________________

Course, I gotta wait till May to know for sure. Silly Boy. Everyone knows Vulcans use metric for shoe sizes. Otherwise I agree with you. While I do know all that stuff just from osmosis, it isn't all that impprtant, and the hysterical cries of breaking canon amuse me no end. And you are right it not Just Star Trek, or Star Wars. it's Dr Who, or BSG, or Babylon 5, or any show. it's fun to get into it, and absorb all the stuff, but in the end, Shatner was right. It is just a TV show or a movie. get a life. |

I watched the Star Trek commercials on the web first from your link Dakota and then they aired them during Fringe tonight. ABSOLUTELY ROCKS!!!!!! And my daughter was the first jumping up and down when she noticed Heroe's Sylar was a Vulcan. We are hard core sci fi fans and are waiting on pins and needles now.
As much as I loved Star Trek when it first aired and for about a decade after, looking at an episode now is painful, OMG they were bad!!!!!! Never noticed before that William Shatner couldn't act worth a darn. No way the new movie can be anything but better. _____________________
