Have you ever felt sorry for a camper?

.....and offered them a better paying job?

If so....is that against the rules somewhere?

If not against the rules.....at worst....would you consider it morally wrong?

Or morally right?

Not really. I kind of assume they have just camped their avatar and are now surfing the web somewhere or playing SL with another alt. I talked to a guy once who says he just parks his avatar on a camp pad before he goes to sleep or whenever he stops playing SL. There are also so many bots around. You can't have any pity for a bot.

I just assume the campers are all bots and I don't feel sorry for them at all.

Well unsolicited im's are against the rules but I've considered offering people who pick off my money tree a role that would be more beneficial but they don't hang around for long enough!

never had any pity for them.... but I might offer to hire them as a clothing mannequin... steady pay, no worries about unsit scripts etc, and I could probably double whatever they make and it'd still be a pittance. or match + free clothes... but that is about like driving by home depot in Tuscon to pick up workers and has nothing to do with pity.

(although actually I think I'd just botify the RLife viewer and do it myself, and as a bonus I'd could script a changeable display that I never had to touch =)

ok....what if you read their profile, and it appears they are not a bot....but someone who is enjoying SL and participating.....

so you send them an IM (which would not qualify as harassment, unless they were trying to sleep)....

....which results in a friendly conversation.....indicating further, that they are not a bot.

Nope. I have a money tree, which I love. Anyone can pay into it (and people do!) and I like seeing the newbies pop in and wander around. Much better than camping chairs.

A friend of mine put a gag camp chair on his mainland parcel once. The chair was named "Camping chair - $3/10 minutes", and had hovertext above it saying the same thing. Whenever somebody would teleport in and sit on it, it would immediately unsit them and say "You must pay $3 per 10 minutes to camp here."

You can get AR'd for them, people have been here saying they've been AR'd for sending them out.

I do feel sorry for them but what they're trying to earn is equal to so little in real dollars. It's easier to just add a credit card and get some linden.

I suspect that a lot of campers just park their avatars and do something else. Their avatar is effectively a camping bot.

I was in a place a few days ago that had a single occupied camping chair and a networked Sploder. Apparently people can get a hud that tells them where the 'splosions are going to happen.
The Sploder was nearing 'sploding time and avatars were piling up.
No talk, no movement...

I shouted "I'll give L$100 to the first one to bump into me."
Not a stir!

Wouldn't it be kinda nice if you could leave your body in a RL workplace and go out enjoying life?
Even better if you had a few alternative bodies that you could leave at different RL workplaces.

i am a camper. i need the $$ to pay my membership & tier. when i don't have time to PLAY second life i will chat my camper with other campers in the area for a few minutes. i always say hi to the regulars, either in open chat or IM, but usually IM so they surely see it if they are AFK. i have made a lot of friends in SL this way. usually, the same people camp the same spots...

i would love a better job, but i am AFK a lot, especially overnight. i do not camp in areas that allow bots... mostly because you cannot get a spot if the bots have found it. but i really do watch my campers for conversation.

oh, and to the people visiting shopping places that have campers? we hear your conversations in open chat. i tell you, the conversations i could use as blackmail that i've overheard over the past 2 years of camping.... (insert devilish smirk here)

we are not all cold, heartless bots. in fact, i hardly see bots anymore in the paid camping areas. people have really put the kabash on that, as far as i can tell.

i wish i could find a better way to generate lindens and still be AFK, but as of yet i have found none. and for the record, i have spent a lot of $$ on my camping alts and i don't mind doing so. i usually shop at the area i am camping so my alt's attire fits in to the theme.... although, not always anymore. but i gladly will if required. it makes camping more than just camping - it makes it feel like you are a part of a community. (and shoppers love when a camper chats. they always first react to us as if we are robots and are delighted when we actually have something to say, can offer advice on the shopping area, etc. i find a great deal of humor in all that, and enjoy being helpful, and have made quite a few friends that way as well - when i am not AFK) :)

You can get AR'd for anything. I could AR you for being on this forum, the colour of your shoes, your spelling and your choice of name.

Whether anyone would give a damn is another matter.

Unless I'm extremely mistaken, IMing someone without their permission breaks no rules in SL. Nothing in ToS, and nothing in Community Standards. Repeatedly IMing someone who has asked that you stop probably would be considered Harrasment. In some circumstances, it might be considered a little rude to send an IM out of the blue, and I know some people put words to the effect of "Don't IM me" in their profiles. That doesn't make it any kind of punishable offence.

You only know you've been AR'd when you receive the message from LL. However you're right, it's not im's, it's notecards that people get reported for.

I, as a camper, have been felt sorry for quite often. So sorry in fact that I have been offered jobs with better pay quite a few times. Usually, when inquiring about what kind of job was offered, the answer was "you, me, a private place..."

i offer them food as i have no jobs to offer them, and if i gave them L$, they'd probably just go out and buy cheap alcohol with it.

Funny...but if it were that kind of job....I wouldn't offer it to a girl.
