I'd consider changing rooms to be the least private areas in SL. For one they are advertised to everyone as changing rooms. Might as well change the name to 'free peep show'.

Indeed. Sounds as though they were basically designed to PROMOTE 'inadvertent' nekkid-encounters.

In much the same way that "No Drama" t-shirts are designed to advertise that the wearer is really, really into Drama.

I still find it funny that people get off on naked pixels.

It all kinda reminds me of the kid in HS who used to spank it to She-Hulk comic books. Kinda sad.

I once had a woman at a RL campground lay into me because I changed my clothes in the shower stall, instead of out in the main room where the other women were waiting for their turns. It seems I'm not supposed to want privacy from complete strangers - not if they have the same plumbing, anyway.

As for rude people in SL, I tend to think of them as chew toys. Their own behavior allows me to say whatever comes to mind, instead of worrying about their feelings.

As for changing in private in SL - this is MY paper doll, and I don't want no eyetracks on her! So there.

Before I had land, I used to go to a sandbox, rez a freebie house, and sort my wardrobe. You quite often can't tell what something looks like if you're fully clothed, anyway.

Personally, I always found it safer to just stick with folders for specific outfits and first do "add to outfit" and then see what is still "worn" and remove any lingering unneeded pieces. If I goof on setting up a folder or SL wants to be really slow with attachments, then "Replace Outfit" can leave me bald and worse for quite a while.

Exactly what I teach in one of my Personalizing Avatar Classes - I even do an in-class demo. In public, "replace outfit" can be a bit iffy, imo.

QFT! I had a favorite rooftop that even had a little Japanese pagoda on the top with doors that open and shut - in a sim that was empty 99.99% of the time.

SL is a really big place and there are tonnes of uninhabited regions, far from prying eyes.

While exploring SL, find the most isolated area, landmark it and use that as your private changing room (until someone appears, because, sooner or later, someone else may pop by). But it's another way to be assured privacy.

Modesty is a personal choice in SL.

It's nice to have a quiet place to get your kit on.

The only reason I ever bother with 'privacy' in SL is when I'm checking the demos of skins so I can decide which ones I want. And the only reason I want privacy is because the last time I tried a demo skin in the nude, some idiot decided to hump my leg... (My home is public access, because it's a part of the shop. Now, I go to the workshop and close the curtains with banlines.)

Otherwise, I'm not too terribly worried about privacy. If I had my avatars' shapes and could change clothing as fast.. I'd either be naked all the time OR I'd be changing clothing every second or so. On second thought.. I don't think I'd look nearly as good in "Missing Image."

setting log-in point
09-02-2008 08:19
The OP mentions that when she logged back in, someone was in the changing room that she rezzed into: why not set your login to your home point? Whenever I log out and back in, I always go back to my assigned home point. That would help avoid the awkward encounters ...

Usually people want to log in where they logged out. But for those moments where you KNOW you do not want to, quickly changing your log in point from the log in screen is a definite plan. However, I'll be the first to admit that sometimes I forget to do that and pray I don't end up in an uncomfortable situation. ha ha.

It happens. There's always two sides. And when you're new, you can't remember nor understand all the options, nuances etc. Sometimes I think that a bit of a sedative needs to come with every newbie's inventory. heee. It sure would make things easier.

Ok, that's cool. I always prefer to log into my home point -- being a nice little house hidden amidst the giant advert prims on the mainland -- since I might need to cut out of SL at any moment, and I might easily forget where the heck I was... For me it's comforting to always come back to the same old place ...

Nah, I was on my own land. That was just simple banishment from my plane of existence. He was lucky I didn't just set the land to damage and give him a good blowing.. in a big boom sort of way. Didn't help that I had my husband laughing in the background as it happened... HE got something thrown at him.

I was camping in RL once many years ago. I noticed these 2 old ladies had pitched their tent about 3-4 yards from the MEN'S toilet door.

I went in and performed my business and came out as all the other guys were doing. I went back to the toilet some hours later for some more business and overheard the one old lady say to the other something like "ooh i wish these men wouldn't keep walking all around our tent and being such a nuisance."

I walked over to her, leant right into her face and shouted as loud as I could, something along the lines of "Well don't be such a silly person and pitch your tent somewhere else, if us blokes going to the WC is such a nuisance." or words to that effect... silly cow. :)

I'm terrible for not taking landmarks before logging out so if I was in the middle of exploring something and need to log out fast, I really like being able to appear in that same location when I log back in. This is more often than not the case for me, so I think it's really a personal preference thing.

I tried auto logging to my home but if I was logged out before I finished exploring or buying something (and as usual forgetting a landmark or the name of the place), and forget to change to "last location", I'd be screaming "noooooooooooooooooooo" at the computer as I hit the enter button out of habit to login to default (this case, home) location. ha ha.

I'm probably not making any sense. I need some katnip.

Just so you know, the doors at Milky9 can be locked. After you close it there is an area you can click on the door that register them as "engaged"

if there`s really a need for it, i can make a couple of simply skyboxes, use a landing point and a teleport board wich disables if a box registers some one there with a sensor script and maybe a small area for unpacking clothing boxes

private island with just me there and a friend who`s hardly online, plus i have no issue banning people if they make an ass out of them selfs

Rude Uninvited Visitor
09-02-2008 17:10
Last Thursday, I opened my sim for family and friends for a nice cool swim and just family fun. An UNINVITED visitor arrived that no one knew who she was. But, nevertheless she was welcomed to my home. She said she didnt have swimsuit. Found that strange due her avie was well over a year old. Well, my fiance' gave her one that he caught from the 7 seas tournament that he participates in. Well she put it on, then called him a perv because it did not cover her "female" parts adequately. Of course he apolgoized and I asked her to apology for calling him that because that was not his intent. AND, there was nothing wrong with the swimsuit. She refused to apologize. After a heated exchange, she was asked to leave which she didnt. She started that flying all around the sim stuff.

I eventually banned her and resumed in having a good time. Yes, there are some very rude people in sl. Behind their computer they are billy/billie bully bad asses. How sad for them and her, because had she just apologized she could've continued enjoying her evening with us and I may have possibly offered her friendship and group membership.

That's understandable. But one option that might avoid 'log-in-embarrassments' might be to fly up a few dozen meters before you click Quit. (Just an idea...)

So it's her loss really. In my view the easiest way to deal with rude people is to ban, mute and forget. Why let them get you down?
