Recently I have found changing rooms at The Changing Room and have been using the rooms to change my clothes in private. One day I was in one of the changing rooms and my computer started acting up. I had to log off and log back on. When I logged back on there was another woman in the changing room with me. Before I could say anything or get out I got a IM from this person. She told me "Bitch this is my private changing room and you need to get out". I replied the following "I am not a Bitch and I had to log back on. If you will give me just a minute I will gladly give you your room".
I found changing rooms at Milky9 today and was using one of them. Some other girl/woman flew into the dressing room with me. I IM'd her and told her that I was there first. She asked me if I was a woman to which I said yes. She then told me that the changing rooms are public and then asked me if I had a problem with another woman seeing me naked. I just teleported to The Changing Room and left her.
Aren't these changing rooms supposed to be private? Just makes you wonder how miserable these people are in their real lives.

Your avatar is nothing more than a pixel doll meant to represent you in a virtual world. While it isn't a good idea to run around with nothing on, you really don't need to be shy If I looked as good as my av does I would probably be running around nakie in my backyard right now lol But yes there are rude people everywhere, internet anonymity and all that, just mute them IMO

You also need to remember that with camera abilities, privacy is pretty much an illusion in SL unless you own your own private island.

Drop by the Forum Cartel Hangout in Allana (here's a SLURL: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Allana/160/32/37 ) There is a changing room there, about 400m above the hangout. Folks there are a little kooky but rarely rude. I'm sorry about the run-in with the person who called you bitch for no reason. Just remember that SL, like RL, has lots of nice folks and lots of the other kind too.

never thought of people actually feeling the need to use a changing room
I either switch outfits right where I am, or if I must I fly up about 300 or 400 meters (if no flight feather then just fly to the max you can)
as for rude people, mute them, works wonders

If you need privacy because you want to take clothes off before putting other ones on you might try going under the ocean to do it. Other people might be less likely to notice or stumble upon you there.

Works everywhere. No need for a changing room. Also, build some outfit folders which you can just right-click and choose "Replace Outfit". These need to contain all attached objects like hair, jewelry and HUD attachments.

If you teleport to the infohub in the Hanson region, you'll see a sign with a tp on it to dressing rooms. They are almost always empty. Privacy doesn't really exist in SL. Even in dressing rooms or your private residence, people can cam in and watch you do whatever you're doing. You sort of have to redefine "privacy" or just stop caring.
You know you don't have to be naked when you change clothes, right? If you right click on the piece of clothing you want to wear and select "wear" it will automatically replace whatever you have on that clothing layer without making you naked first. At least the usually works. Honestly, people are probably getting a glimpse of more than you want them to when you tp in and out of places. Sometimes the delays when you appear can cause you to be naked for a few seconds.

This is not real, it's on the computer. Stop caring if people see your AV (note I said av, because it is not "you" naked. Simple.

I'm thinking the point of this got missed somewhere. What I got out of the OP was a bit of shock at how rude people behave about a dressing room. Perhaps I read it wrong though.
Rude people run free in SL to behave in any given situation however they see fit. How the person in story #1 percieved the situation could have been entirely different than the OP did yet it wasnt an excuse to react so harshly. Rather typical, unfortunetly. Sorry you ran into some rude people, at either dressing room, but using some of the tips for changing that were posted in this thread can help you to avoid those particular instances at least.

From: Mary Amaterasu She asked me if I was a woman to which I said yes. I'd have said no, and stayed. You'd have had your own room in moments, I'm willing to bet.

Be inspired that you are among the displaced social outcasts Mitch Kapor spoke about so fondly at a recent celebration of "We, the Lindens, and You the little, meaningless people"
In the future, there will be plenty of places in which you can change your clothes. Fortunately for you, Second Life won't be one of them.

I'd consider changing rooms to be the least private areas in SL. For one they are advertised to everyone as changing rooms. Might as well change the name to 'free peep show'. And then you have all the people who are genuinely there to change bumping into each other and accusing each other of being perverts.

To the OP- Sorry for what happened- it is true there is zero privacy really but- u should be allowed the illusion o it if u so required. I don't care that we are "just pixels" they are my damn pixels and I will choose to whom and where to expose them. The floating a billion meters up and under water works - so does going home. I agree with you no reason to be accosted- and sadly yes there are rude people in SL as there are in RL.
Sorry u experienced that- sadly other than the air and underwater advice all i can say is I hope u will have better luck next time.

Rude People
09-01-2008 17:31
O.K. everyone I wasn't talking about the fact that people are seeing me nude...heck with the body I have on SL the whole world can see me naked...LOL. The point I was making was just how rude people can be. It's just like in the real world but it has just come as a bit of a shock to me since the majority of the people I have met on SL have been so nice and friendly.
Thanks to those of you who told me of new places to change. I will do the folder thing. Have already changed underwater...kind of neat....

Yes it seems the point was missed along the way by a few.
Sadly Mary, there are rude people in all walks of life and SL is no exception.
I got TP'd to a land pacel from a rental agency, only to be told F**k off Ho this is my land, by someone who had, unbeknown to me, already rented it.
I think you handled the situations well, best to just move on and ignore.......

They pay no attention to you.......if there is even anyone around at all

From: Rhaorth Antonelli never thought of people actually feeling the need to use a changing room I either switch outfits right where I am, or if I must I fly up about 300 or 400 meters (if no flight feather then just fly to the max you can) From: Ricky Yates What Rhaorth said. Works everywhere. No need for a changing room. I know that what I see on my viewer is not always what everyone else sees, but when I change clothes it just quite often seems that the new stuff rezzes much slower than the old stuff comes off -- my old shirt will disappear, but my new shirt is slow to fully rez, therefore my boobs are showing for a short bit. Yes, I know we are only pixels, but to me, it is still a bit discomforting if I am in a situation where naked is not really called for. From: Ricky Yates Also, build some outfit folders which you can just right-click and choose "Replace Outfit". These need to contain all attached objects like hair, jewelry and HUD attachments. Personally, I always found it safer to just stick with folders for specific outfits and first do "add to outfit" and then see what is still "worn" and remove any lingering unneeded pieces. If I goof on setting up a folder or SL wants to be really slow with attachments, then "Replace Outfit" can leave me bald and worse for quite a while.

Eventually you will find the places where they do not show up much (the Forum Cartel Hangout is a good place for that).

It's the same kind of anonymity that creates road rage. We say all kinds of horrible things to people when we get behind a wheel.
Yes, you can change by using folders -- but ladies like to mix and match and try different things, and take things off and put them back on two or twenty times. Also, what if you want to make minute adjustments to your shape? You need to be unclothed to do this.
I think changing rooms are a great idea. When I was homeless I used the ones at NCI. They had two posing stands, and when another guy would come in, we'd just ignore each other. The idea is just to get away from the public a little, and frankly the skies are getting a little crowded these days.
I have a couple of changing rooms at my parcel in Caledon Tanglewood, right off the hub. I don't think anyone ever goes there. (and Caledon does not allow any spy devices, etc.)
