Streaming music stopped working

Streaming music stopped working on my land & anywhere else I visit. I tried going to preferences & checking everything to make sure ok-clicked -applied again-still no luck-nothing muted.

I also tried putting in new url's of stations that are good as of right now-no luck.

It used to always work & then one day last week it just quit! HELP! It's not the same without any nice music!

Only thing I can think of is the standard Clear Cache>>Relog to try to fix it.

Short of that, file a Support Ticket and hope.

A friend of mine had the same problem. After pulling our hair out, we realized her WINDOWS sound system had been set to 'Mute'. This might not be your problem, but if the computer sound system is not 'online', SL has noting to play through. Hope this helps

Tried all of this & STILL NO SOUND-MUSIC THAT IS! I can hear waves & birds.

The clear cache and relog works for me when that happens... Does anyone else hear music when you don't? Invite as friend over to test it out. If they hear it then it has to be some setting on your computer. Good luck. I know how much I love to have music streaming...

My first post ever on forums... be gentle...

cleared cache, defraged, rebooted, checked the blog. I haven't had sound in SL for a while, and use to have it, with me not changing any preferences, though I too have rechecked them. I can get lots of lovely birds waves, wind and chimes or bells, but no music, for about a month or more. Objects in edit also now bounce back once edited so it has to be almost always repositioned, and tonight was just bad in world..

Might try turning off the modem for a short period.

I have no evidence to support this but it's easy enough to do.

Might try using the Release Candidate, I'm using it and it seems to be working ok, although SL seems to be in pretty sad shape today.

Can you play streaming music through other means than SL?

Has something gone bad with your Quicktime installation?

I don't guess it's the setting in the popup controls that you bring up with the volume control at the bottom right of the screen.

Try reinstalling Quicktime...

untick streaming audio in preferences, apply it, log out, log back in and then tick it again and apply. works every time for me.

Many of the internet streams have been closed down lately. All my tenenats complained that their radios did not work, turned out it was many of the popular stream that had gone bye-bye.

If you are using a sl radio to listen to your streams see if it has the Linden Radio stream listed, and try listening to that, that stream works.

If Linden Radio works then go to the Creator of the radio (mine came from Weedy Herbst) and see if they have a new notecard with all the currently available streams that have not been close down yet. Weedy had been working around the clock to find streams for his customers.

Another solution you might want to consider is MP3 Jukeboxes, see yesterday's thread on this from me.

Not being a techie I was reluctant to try out this new mp3 jukebox thingy of Rocks, but I wanted my music back!!

But hey, L$250 (about 1 US$) not so much to lose.

I bought it, rezzed it, selected a track from the menu, and hey, music is back!!!

Right now I am listening to Rock's compilations, but busy getting my own up (well my brother is uploading them now for me), soon I will have all my fav compilations up and running. Thank you so much Rock, you do ROCK!

btw, you should advertise more, it took me ages to track down your mp3 jukebox, for others in the forum, I found mine at:

Quick question, I am getting one of those zero-hosting websites, it takes 24 hours (but your music IS good Rock, just, erm, would like my own), does anyone know if you can host mp3s at sites like MySpace etc?

Yes seems to be the problem; for example the url for All Southern Rock has now changed from that on the notecard on my SL radio - got a different one from their website and put this in the notecard - works fine now but is does seem that so far all the other stations i have listed have changed or indeed perhaps removed...

And it's going to get worse. Another 22 streams dead today from the new list from two days ago! Weedy tells me that there has been a big shakeup at Shoutcast with one of the oldest and much loved streams going under.

I wonder if this spells the end now for Shoutcast, in the same way that Napster and other file sharing sites went?? Shoutcast does have legitimate royalty-paying users, but the majority are amateurs who just cannot afford the royaties being demanded.

This needs watching.

Many thanks to those who tried the mp3 JukeBox and liked it. Encouraged by this, I will work on more models with more features.

Done all this, the pc was taken to the shop for them to look at it, test it and it is not on this end, not pc related or server related from this end. All this has been checked and rechecked, just for SL, due to the thought it could be useful in our business as per the home page.

This is happening to me now too Houstonian.

I can hear the stream in iTunes, I can play and hear video in SL yet I can not hear music anywhere in SL. Tough when you are an SL musician.

Had the same problem. A few days ago I bought a small radio and worked perfectly until yesterday. Then I tried this tip from Midi Reifsnider and it worked again.
I don't know why but just try this!

Exact same problem starting Sat evening. got small radio for land Friday. Suddenly
Sat Evening music wouldnt stream. BAck in today, and worked for awhile, then cut out. Then would pop back on once in a while for 10 seconds then be gone again.

Reinstalled Quicktime, client, cleared cache. Tried the uncheck apply relog check apply... nothiing.

ARG....

I've been having the same problem since Saturday - doing this works for me for a little while, but if I TP away and come back, or if I try to change the radio station, the music vanishes again. I don't want to log in and out again every time I want to change to a different music stream.

I seem to have lost a few streams as well with the massive stream deaths, but this is happening even with streams that I know are still 'alive'.

I have not really been on since MAY!!!! All because I can't stream music onto my land! I tried suggestions-so far nothing has working. All I have is ambient sound. Anytime I tried to download ITunes it created horrible problem.

Please help-I want to start having some fun again & being able to go to my Louis Valore concerts I miss so much. Which mean I can't hear music anywhere!

if you are running windows, do an update check, the last time that happened to me, that cleared it up right away.

Thanks all who helped-don't know why, but tonight I got my music back after being off since May-well I got fed up trying so just quit going in. Hope it lasts!!!
