Brett Favre jersey in my inventory?

Since there are so many strange threads here lately I've decided to add one of my own. I am a total Packer Backer, Cheese head...however you want to put it. For those of you that follow US football... I am so torn! I loved Brett ...when he was Packer. To me... the best part of football was watching Brett's nice tight buns running for the goal line. Actually I like watching all the nice tight buns...but Brett's were exceptional.

Seriously though...the Packers play the Vikings this weekend...and Packer fans cannot help but feel betrayed by Brett. There is a huge bonfire planned for the game...where all Wisconsinites are invited to bring all their Brett paraphernalia to burn!! For every item burned...$10 will be donated to a camp for children burn victims. My question is this...should I donate my Brett paraphernalia for this cause? It's not like I can ever wear it again in public. And what should I do with all my Brett t-shirts and my Brett poofer bracelet hidden in my SL inventory? Should I just delete them? Do I dare wear them in SL … get caught by a Cheese head and thought a traitor?

Or am I truly insane???

Fun thread topic. Thanks for starting it!

Why would anyone want to burn something that might have value to their offspring on ebay someday? And why should you hate someone just because they changed the color of their uniform?

Seinfeld was right. We are basically rooting for laundry.

Keep the jersey and wish the man and his buns well. He's getting up in years and this is his last hurrah. Be the bigger fan and just wish him the best, except when he is playing the Packers.

Besides, shouldn't the bonfire have happened last year when he was a New York Jet? Should the Jets burn their Favre stuff too?

p.s. It broke my heart when Trevor Ariza left the LA Lakers for Houston. But I'll root for him (and old favorites like Robert Horry) any time they are not playing the Lakers.

Brett is a quaterback. He doesn't really run the ball very much... especially not in the last 10 years.

Enough for me to keep my eyes glued to the screen when he was on the field ;)

Just squint when you are watching next week and fantasize that it's him in his prime. This method keeps a lot of couples together.

Ahhh...but the Jets were not one of our arch rivals like the Vikings are. It would have been the same if he went to Chicago and became a Bear...what an uproar that would have caused!!!

It was easy to ignore the fact that Brett was a Jet...for a Cheesehead.

The Vikings are a whole different ballgame

Well I have to admit...I do still fantasize about him when I see him on the field. His salt & pepper gray only adds to his rugged hotness. :o

But Brett as a Viking? For so many years Wisconsin idolized him. When he announced his retirement on a special newcast...most residents were glued to the screen...and we all mourned with him. He was our hero ...almost reaching the heights of Bart Starr.

A few months later he comes out of retirement...and signs a year contract with the Jets. OK..many understood how much he loves football but why did he retire in the first place? He has his season with the Jets...and retires again. Now all of a sudden he comes out of retirement for the 2nd time to play for the Vikings? That was the last straw for the many Brett fans that were still rooting for him.

Now in all the store windows downtown..instead of the familar green & yellow...I see white shirts with big purple lettering... "We will never forget you Brent" or "Frent Bavre".

Truthfully..it is amazing what brings a whole state together. Whole malls are closing for the game this weekend...should be very interesting

Your history is a bit faulty....he retired and unretired ..then signed with the Jets for last season...where he led them to a stellar first half, then crashed and burned. Then he retired an unretired again, and signed with the Vikings.

Luckily I waited before buying any. I didn't think he'd be around long, so I just wore my Vinny Testaverde jersey inside out. :p

I have a Mark Sanchez jersey on order, now.

If you feel guilty about the cause, you can donate the money to it without giving in to the destruction.

I'm not a sports fan at all, so this sort of loyalty test is brutish herd behavior as far as I'm concerned. It's just testosterone.

You wrote Vikings instead of Jets the first time.

Well I do have to say that is the first time I have been accused of "testosterone" and as a woman, I feel that is a total sexist remark. I totally disagree that it is brutish...in the midwest or at least the part of it I'm from...sports is what get's us through very long cold winters. We are all fans...men, women and children of just about every televised sport.

I just thought I'd post about something different then the rash of alt(copy) threads. I didn't even get a Laugh Out Loud from this forum yesterday. And as a Packer fan I am torn...I will probably delete my Brett shirt from my inventory. I guess that makes me a testosterone driven brute:(

I didn't want to make you feel bad! And sorry if I ruined your thread.

I meant that the behavior is testosterone-based, not that YOU are.

It's a side of life that I don't experience, so it's hard to relate.

In any case, I think you'll regret deleting it.

Why not put it all in a box called "object" so you can forget about it and find it some time in the future?

Might be a mistype. It's been Favre's motivation through all that that was in question. When he was not signed (because he waited so long to make up his mind), he DID want and try to get traded to Minnesota, but the Packers would have nothing of it for obvious reasons. It took him an extra year in NY to finally get on the Vikings team, by using the Jets as a way out of Packers contract obligations, and using a short contract/fake retirement as a way out of NY's. Now he's a Viqueen just like he originally wanted, but it's the way he went about it that so many don't approve of, like using the retirement get-out-of-contract clause.

Belle, don't sweat that one bit.. many people don't understand how these things become like holidays around here. Try telling them how opening weekend is, and how it's like a religious event for most here, and they get that deer-in-the-headlights "duuuhh" thing going on :p

Speaking as Packer fan from the heart of Wisconsin, keep your stuff! Nobody expects you to run out and get new stuff, OR abandon the things that bring the game close to you personally. If they do, then they've totally missed what it means to support the only community owned team in the NFL. I *still* run my ponytail through my '96 central div champs hat if I should happen to be bartending on a gameday. Nobody's even on the team that played then lol.. who cares? Those that can't appreciate it when others recognize the past contributions that *were* made, like with old jerseys and such, are most likely fair-weather fans IMO.
:D

Btw - Win, lose, or epic fail.. it's going to be a helluva good game!

I would keep all my stuff, because after everyone burns theirs, you will be one of the few that still has theirs. Might be worth money. Then again, I don't understand football fans, so maybe I'm wrong.
