FACT: Each time you offer/accept Friendship, you AUTOMATICALLY exchange Calling Cards *without* your permission or in some cases, knowledge.
FACT: Removing a friendship DOES NOT remove *either* Calling Card.
FACT: Calling Cards are merely Inventory-Sticky short-cuts to a friend/former friend's avatar profile.
==================================================
If, for whatever reason, I am removing an avatar from my friend's list, I would personally prefer to have my Calling Card removed (from *both* our inventories) as well--which is not possible under the present system.
Offering Calling Cards *instead* of friendships is a valid way to remain in touch without the (default) on-line notifications, however, few use them in that way.
The current Friendship/Calling Card system was created when Second Life™ was a very different place than it is today and I propose that whole system needs to be revamped; thus the poll.

I suggest something like this: "Do you, Avatar X, take Avatar Y, for your lawful SL friend, to pester you with teleport offers and inane IMs, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do you part." and if you accept then you're both given a little prim torus ring each. it'll be lovely!. social networking at its finest!

It takes too long to delete a calling card?

I don't see what the problem is with them as is.

Why do you care if someone has your calling card? The only use for them is the ability to start a conference (and to find out when you friended someone), or to add someone to an existing conference. There is no online status tracking for calling cards that don't belong to someone who's on your friends list.

What I'd like to see is a way to split up my friends list.
Personal Friends Business Friends Unknown Friends
Yes, I realize its a derailment of the thread...just putting in my two cents about these friends lists.

You can remove the calling card manually by going to the calling card folder in the inventory thats an easy way and sometimes i want to keep the calling cards of some people but not need them on the friends list anymore. Use the search feature to save time looking for it in your inventory I always use them in the way there were intended to remain in touch without the online stuff I would like to see Xplorers idea implemented where we can group friends etc thats a far better idea to manage the list IMHO

You can remove *THEIR* calling card from YOUR inventory, of course. But you cannot remove *YOUR* calling card from THEIR inventory . . . ." I altered the initial Poll description for clarity. Thanks.

While there are a few folks out there that I would like to yank my card away from, for the most part, they are just useless clutter in my inventory that I never use and rarely even look at.

Just when I think I've seen every pointlessly paranoid concern regarding SL someone manages to come along and surprise me with a new one. Put me down as voting for the "calling cards are fine, I rarely give them a second thought much less a first and anyone this concerned about them seriously needs to find something better to do with their time" option.

Anna's tip of the week:
If you feel that a calling card constitutes an invasion of your privacy, and there are people who you do not want to have your card...
Don't offer or accept freindship with them.

From: Amras Alder <anip> If, for whatever reason, I am removing an avatar from my friend's list, I would personally prefer to have my Calling Card removed (from *both* our inventories) as well--which is not possible under the present system. <snip> Why does it matter? If they are not on your Friends list, then the calling card will no longer show your online status (which you can stop showing prior to that anyway by just un-selecting the appropriate box for that person on your Friends list). The minute you un-Friend someone, the only things the card is good for is: 1) shows the date when it was originally received 2) makes it a little quicker to pull up your profile Assuming you delete the cards from your inventory (which I never found to be a difficult or time-consuming task) then the card is only cluttering their inventory. So, I guess I still don't get why LL should devote any resources to this when there are so many other things that really need fixing or changing.

Calling cards were an invaluable resource for the several months my friends lst said "Waiting . . . " and "Hippo."
Also, since they are in your inventory, why not use them as a sortable friends list and put them into subfolders, Business, Intimate, or whatever as requested above? (I haven't tried moving them into subfolders, but everything else works that way.)

If you give someone your business card in real life and no longer want them to have it, do you break into their house and take it by force?
You should have no control over another person's inventory.

As a matter of fact, you CAN sort Calling cards into folders, and can even copy them, so the card can be in multiple folders. So you could use them in a way to organize groups like that: Intimate friends, Social contacts, Business contacts, Furries, ... etc.. Even if one person falls into several groups.
I think it used to be the case that removing someone from your Friends list removed you from theirs, and ALSO removed the associated calling cards on both sides. But if that was ever so, it hasn't been that way for at least the last year.

I find them good for keeping my friends list short to actuall friends and commonly communicated business people, the calling card should be like business cards in my view so I could give someone elses calling card to someone when I wanted to refer them for business reasons. And at times when search & friends lists were offline calling cards were handy to find friends. I did hear the notes page in profiles was on the scrutiny list as in who uses it.

I just find it odd how I can't have my own callingcard. I mean.. If it really was a bussinescard kind of thing, I'd be able to include it into a landmark giver kind of object and have it give one to those interested. If it really was a bussinescard, I'd be able to put some logo on it, and add some text about office hours or whatever. If it really was a bussinescard, I'd be able to include some kind of location or whatever. If it really was a bussinescard, people would be able to pull it up and view it without starting an IM session or opening my profile.
If anything, callingcards could be merged with LM's, and made editable (to some degree) by the creator only, be given properties (link to the creators' profile, location(s), advert(s), etc.), allow for changing it's picture, set online notification of the card on/off, have copy/transfer permissions editable, you get the idea.
Both LM's and callingcards are rather lacking these days. They're not obsolete, but they're not extremely useful either. But they definitely do have a lot of things in common, some things that one has which the other misses, lots of things that both lack.
And yes, some things you might want to put on a callingcard, but not on your profile and vice versa. And yes, I know I could put some things in a notecard instead, but a notecard doesn't look as nice as an LM for example (no welcome image, sizing problems, wall of text, etc.), and I still can't put my callingcard into a notecard either!

I delete them as soon as I receive them. They are redundant for me.

I went through and deleted almost 300 calling cards. My TPs became nearly instantaneous.

From: HoneyBear Lilliehook I went through and deleted almost 300 calling cards. My TPs became nearly instantaneous. I have about 500 and my TPs are in a question of seconds lolol anyway, I use quiet often calling cards, even if I remove the person from friends list I like to have the calling card filled on its right sub-folder, that way I can always remember ppl if I'm searching for something But I agree with a previous post about the fact that there are lots of more important thinks to add LL resources, for instance 25 groups, or giving more the opportunity to send different group notices to different roles (one for officers, one for VIP clients, one regular clients and so on)
