Year of the Dog 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 .Besides: 4 RL hours for 1 SL day 11 SL days for 1 SL year (or 44 RL hours for 1 SL year) |

I don't believe in astrology in RL.
Presumably, SL astrology, based on rez date, involves predicting the future of your avatar! Like - Monday: Today your signs are very good for building and texturing. Tuesday: Watch out for extreme lag when visiting danceclubs. Wednesday: Avoid sandboxes today as you are particularly likely to attract the attentions of troublesome griefers. Thursday: You will meet a pushy, amorous newbie. Unlike many such encounters, this one should not be dismissed as it could lead to a promising relationship. Friday: You might feel tempted to write a self-pitying blog on SLProfiles. You are advised to resist this temptation. Still nonsense, of course, but quite fun all the same! _____________________

Hmpf... if 2006 was the year of the dog it just goes to show what a bunch of nonsense that all is .Besides: 4 RL hours for 1 SL day 11 SL days for 1 SL year (or 44 RL hours for 1 SL year) that just means there are more days in an SL year than an RL year ..it's all still 2006 ![]() _____________________

No, but it is too dangerous. If you are honest and look at nature vs nurture, you be called a racist. If you rely soley upon nurture, but question the validity of some cultures, you are called a racist. So studying astrology is safer. Unusually heavy nonsense. |

Astrology is just another way for people to avoid taking responsibilty for their actions, or to try to give meaning to what are sometimes just coincidences and the results of other peoples actions. Sometimes, shit just happens. There doesn't have to be a meaning.

For more accurate astrology in SL, I use the build date of my computer. On my laptop I'm a Virgo, but my desktop is a Leo.

Unusually heavy nonsense. Yes it is nonsense that some areas of study are shut off from scientific debate because of political correctness. _____________________

Yes it is nonsense that some areas of study are shut off from scientific debate because of political correctness. Astrology is not cut off from scientific debate. There just happens to be a lack of verifiable evidence for it. Create a testable hypothesis, test it, and see what the data indicates. |

He's not talking about Astrology. Just read his earlier post. However, the same thing applies. Frame a question into a testable hypothesis, and it's science. There are questions science is not capable of answering such as "the validity of some cultures." That's a subjective question. It is not that scientific debate is limited by the mythical Political Correctness, but that the questions that you wish to answer are not testable by the scientific method. |

I keep hearing that your SL "sign" is based on your rez date. I have trouble believing that because: 1)That would mean that 3/4 of all AVs were born under Scorpio, which is not true. 2)I doubt that any credible RL astrologer would agree that how you act in SL is based on rez date. People in RL are what the were born, even if they fight in a war, survive a concentration camp, or other huge events. So how can trying an online "game" change who you are. I will never believe that. Don't just tell me that's how it is. Give me some logical reason. If you don't believe in astrology at all, that's fine. I do. hmm, I do astrology have made some charts all based on real actual dates and people. Now using a "sl born" date is never going to give you true results as it is fictations, the only thing or indication of events etc, is that on your born on date you had a aspect of curiosity or wanting somehting new (which would put us all in Gemini), which as you know is your RL self not a avatar... so no, I can make no connections to a fictional avatar unless their born on day happens to be their rl bday, and then as you know the time and place (our long & lat all being pretty much where ever LL dumps us the first time) is very important so basicly we were all "born" in one place... so we would all have the same characteristics in some regardless of date... (I am assuming this is where scorp comes into it) I am, born aquarius my rl self, and my avatar is july, Cancer.... these two actually share a lot of characteristics.... anyhow.. I have never even thought about making a chart for tarina.. also, I doubt any creditable rl astrologer would even do a chart based on a avatar,...... |

Thank you Taurina. The other answers were, um, amusing but yours was meaningful.
I do *believe* in astrology, like other people believe in the many religions that make no sense to me. I do have scientific training, and I do understand why people think astrology is irrational. I think one could find scientific evidence to support astrology. E.g., there are statistics concerning car driving by different signs. Sun signs seem to be a better predictor of driving safety than age. That is pretty impressive if true. I have not read the actual research, however, and the devil is always in the details. But again, I *believe* in astrology, so I don't greatly care about scientific proof. If you believe in a religion, do you need "scientific proof" about it? |

Astrology is not a religion. Unlike modern religions, it makes direct testable claims about the physical world that can be treated scientifically.

Yes it is nonsense that some areas of study are shut off from scientific debate because of political correctness. There may be specific incidents where that happens, but is it a sufficiently common phenomenon to justify turning it into an aphorism? I don't doubt your ability to come up with some number of examples, but how many does it take for it to be a genuine issue? If someone starts with a hypothesis to serve the needs of a racist group and attempts to prove it scientifically, the scientific approach doesn't erase the racist motivation. Questioning the validity of a culture is philosophy, not science, so it's not relevant to the point being made (which was the difficulty and/or safety of being scientific). |

If you don't care about scientific proof, why do you care about logical explanations? The two go hand in hand. My religious beliefs don't include making scientific predictions or conclusions, so they don't call for scientific proof. Some religions do attempt to make scientific statements (creationism being the obvious example), and yes, those do require scientific approaches. |

If you believe in a religion, do you need "scientific proof" about it? Most mock or belittle what they do not understand but some just take a giant leap of faith, in the case of God. I do not need scientific proof God exists, I just believe. I also do rune and tarot and people usually laugh at me or think I am a witch er whatever, but what they do not realize is the tarot is accurate 80% of the time... I dont argue, I dont fight I smile and live my life as I like and enjoy these things and if someone happens to be interested.. ![]() |

Astrology is not a religion. Unlike modern religions, it makes direct testable claims about the physical world that can be treated scientifically. I didn't say it was a religion, just that I believed in it the way many people believe in religions. Otherwise, a good point. |

But this gets back to an earlier question. They may go hand in hand, but they are not the same. Before Columbus sailed, it was logical to say that the earth was flat. Why risk people's lives on a dangerous voyage? So, people say that it's silly to think that stars and planets could have a physical effect on human personality. I agree. But I believe that there is something to astrology. Maybe metaphysical. |
