Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Cake or death? Oops, sorry we're out of cake. Who'd have thought it would be so popular? Guess you'll have to take death. Just kidding. Here's your cake.

So my choice is 'or death?'

Not sure whether to love you or hate you now. There's no way I can find that in RL right now without risking life and limb on the London underground. But I am impressed.

The subject of pie has a unique history here on the SL forums. It is a running joke dating back to at least 2004 - the earliest I could find was a poll from Jauani Wu that listed Pecan Pie as a poll option, he created several polls with the Pecan Pie choice and it provided much amusement for all and sundry. Eventually the Pecan specification fell out of favor and the option for "pie" started showing up in polls on a regular basis after that as an option for people who couldn't care less about the poll subject but wanted to cast a vote for pie. Pie tended to win many of these polls :D

Over the years, it became a SL forums meme that any poll created without an option for pie was meaningless.

It's more a general internet forums thing. Google on this: forums "i like pie" -- you will see that it is not just an inside joke here, but is spread throughout the snark-o-sphere.

Then again, it DOES come kind of naturally when one of the most important tools in SL is a "pie menu" ...

I keep seeing references to "pie" in the forums. I assume this is some kind of inside joke that I am not familiar with. What is with all the "pie" references? Can someone share the history of this with the rest of us?
Want a serious answer? I'm not sure of the origins of its use on web fora, but pie is traditionally a universal answer to any question, and a good indication that you don't know the real answer at all.

Pie is a distraction, an excuse; and it makes people think of tasty things to eat so they tend to forgive the person who used the term. ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi

Pi goes on forever.. transcendental...:)

"Despite much analytical work, and supercomputer calculations that have determined over 1 trillion digits of π, no simple pattern in the digits has ever been found"

very much like SL...

Pie method

The pie method is a method for fairly dividing a pie between two people (although the value of this approach is that it applies to any divisible goods). The basic idea is that one person cuts the pie, and the other person chooses which of the two pieces he wants. The person who cuts the pie has the opportunity to divide it into two pieces he believes to be equal; if this is the case, it should not matter to this person which of the two pieces the other person chooses. If the second person believes the pie has been cut unequally, this is not a problem; he merely chooses the piece he believes to be larger.

This procedure can be readily extended to more than two people. The first person cuts a piece he believes to be an even share. Then, in some order, each of the other people is given the chance to take that piece of pie. The person who cut the piece gets that piece if and only if all the other people reject it. The procedure then continues for the remainder of the pie with the next person in order who does not already have a piece of pie making the next cut. Note that the success of this procedure excludes the possibility of collusion; however, the effects of collusion can be reduced if a random rather than fixed order is used.

A related idea in social philosophy is the veil of ignorance.

"The veil of ignorance" .. ha! :)

Reminds me of that Doctor Who serial, "The Five Doctors", when the Master says:

"As easy as Pi!"

Rhubarb pie is my favorite, with vanilla ice cream. Sweet and sour, sharp and tangy flavors all mingled together.

See now, pie is just kind of too neat and orderly for my taste. I am a cobbler type of person. Just throw it all in the pan and throw it in the oven. Either a good peach or fresh picked blackberry cobbler. If it would have been me, we would have cobbler menus instead, just a jumble of choices that pop up on the screen.
