I was pretty fortunate. . . . I was able to stay and keep dancing while I watched everyone crash around me.

And yes. . . it can always get worse.

Well, I'm glad to hear the horror stories from the oldtimers.
"Why, back when I wuz yer age, we thought nothin' of bein' Ruthed for days..."

It really does help put the last few weeks, and the past weekend, in perspective.

For me, it was a very frustrating experience. First, the long outage on Saturday. Then the deliberate disabling of transactions, group chat, and profiles Sunday afternoon. I was teaching a class in which some of these features play an important role! Even late Sunday, newcomers at OI were having all sorts of problems.

(And they say bots don't hurt anyone! The massive concurrency of the weekends is causing LL to disable critical features for EVERYONE. Hey, LL...cut back concurrency by killing the bots, and you'll at least postpone the damn problem!)

Overall, textures have been slow to load and the crash-on-tp bug has come back to plague me.

At least I got to give some feedback. I got one of those "is your SL experience getting better or worse" survey things at one point. Guess what I said.

No, it pales in significance compared to November-December 06

I would agree. October-December of 2006 was seriously rough.

lol, I must have a short attention span, because I don't recall anything that horrible going on then.

That was about the time they hit 1 million signups. Many people screaming that SL had maxed out and that the grid would forever-more start to melt once 12k-15k people got on at once.

That was the era when "Missing Image" became the new black, an Wednesdays gained their reputation, an the grid was going down on weekends pretty regularly thanks to the "gray goo" attacks as well as jes overcrowding.

An I know when I started, there wa bugs that causes people to be invisibleto themselves, but I dun tink of that as so bad. I might feel different today. :-)

LL reliability puts all speculation about any retention rate issues of SL to rest. I have to believe people drop like flies when this happens, and it seems to have happened almost every week/day since I joined. Perhaps things were stable the week I was on vacation.

If I had quit my job to run a business in SL I'd be seriously worried right now with the economy and stability issues. One doesn't have to think twice about cutting out SL spending (game spending basically) when times start to get tough and you can't even get on when you do have time...

And don't tell me SL is more than just a game. LL doesn't treat it like more than one, why should anyone else.

At this point I'm seriously wondering if its wise to even let L$s sit in one's account.

I hope I wasn't the only one that cancelled my premium membership and cashed out my avatar's bank roll this weekend.

Grid stability from a year ago is hardly relevant now. What is relevant is the current instability of the grid.

Granted they have recently rolled out new viewer and server software, so I want to cut them a little slack. But the level of stability MUST improve.

Every hour the grid is down costs inworld business owners money. Directly in that there is lost time for people with classifieds or land sale listings. Indirectly in that there is a loss of confidence in SL's platform and a search for alternatives (there were threads on this topic here during the outage). All of this costs LL.

Personally, I have been very disappointed with the recent instability and in all honesty feel significantly less inclined to do business inworld going forward.

Ah, OK, I remember that...I had a personal relationship developing at the time which captured the majority of my attention. :)

I do remember being chased around a sim by replicating boxes once and having absolutely no idea what was going on. lol Oh, and the near constant refrain of, "Rebake!"

I never understood why changing your group title would make the invisible people appear though.

Am I alone in thinking this was the worst weekend for SL in a long time ? Saturday morning began with the entire grid being shut down for several hours - apparently to improve our Second Life experience. When SL finally did come back on line we found ourselves 'stuttering' about suffering the effects of some truly awful lag. Much as I love Ruth she was popping up just about everywhere. Waiting for clothes, vehicles and buildings to rez tested our patience to the limit. If you were going to a party on the SL mainland on Saturday night..you probably went naked..on foot..and the party was in an empty field..or a building that looked decidedly grey..!

Me...I consider myself pretty loyal to Second Life..I must be I've checked out the opposition and I'm still here. I do however pay Linden Labs a shit load of cash every month and this weekend certainly wasn't in my opinion particularly good value for money.

You...might like to add your comments on how this weekend went for you.

Perre..:(

Actually, when it was up, it ran rather well. We had a 8 hour long party at the Forum Cartel Hangout Saturday night. And for once, no one was naked. Things ran as smooth as ..........I would say a baby's butt, but I don't want to run afoul of the ageplay rules.

Yes, I can remember this time last year when the grid was never up on a Sunday.

That doesn't sound like much of a party to me. :p

"Could SL get ANY worse than this weekend..?"

Short answer: But of course, there's allways space for improvement! ;)

We had a party planned on Sat, 12pm noon, of course that went down the drain because of the blackout.

As horrible as it is to contemplate, I think it could have been worse. But there's no denying that SL has been truly fuxxored lately :(

This would be the worst day of SL ever. This was taken some time ago, when they still had to shut down the grid to do updates.. everyone piled onto the beta grid to get their fixes. Guess what happened? Yeah, they learned the beta asset server could die a lot faster than the main grid ;)

Also, this could be a time/bandwidth saver.. no textures to download and lag down the system. But which one was me??

OK- I had the (mis) fortune to spend a lot of time at work this weekend so I didn't have a problem at all- I missed the outage...however - what's the deal with the major lag I am getting now? It wasn't like this say a week maybe two weeks ago? Can it be a Havok thing - I had an eagle that would fly around my castle- now it is just dangling in space defying gravity... More Havok?

Yup. Havok is *likely* the culprit with your eagle, I bet

I beg to differ. I can assure you that memory is the first thing to go.

Depends on the calls used to make it 'fly'

If it was a non-physical llTargetOmega call, or something similar, then Havok4 shouldn't change it I don't think.

Key words : I don't think.

Strange as it sounds, H4 actually can (and did) break target omega several times. Got a SLURL where we can poke at your eagel, Amaranthim?

Well, I know that target omega is both a physical and non-physical command, so it would make sense really, I suppose. That's one of those weirduns
