oh ok i understand now lol.. i really hate when people just drop pictures on you like that out of the blue.. like a picture of someones wanky is going to have some instant positive impact..
i'm at the point that when i am on the grid i get irritated that when i say something there is always someone that has to drag it through the gutter and make it about sex..
so how was your day? it was good.. how was your day?? well i fed the horses and took one around the ranch today.. oh you FED the horses and Took it for a ride..i bet you did.. bleh.

I like my avatar to be as real looking as possible and to that end I ended up modding my skin with more flaws than the smooth shiny ones so common now. My boob sliders aren't set on stun either. I love places like Chakryn forest which looks about as realistic as I suppose build-it-yourself technology can get. As to what I do in SL, that's also just me interacting with other people as I think I pretty much do normally -- given all the strange and interesting things you can do. And within reasonable prim limits. And nominal lag. And static-y voice. And adult content restraints. In between crashes. Provided group IM is not borked.

Realism has its place. Where the setting is supposed to be real-world-real, furries, robots and distorted avatars detract from the experience and I can understand why they aren't welcome everywhere.
On the other hand, SL wouldn't be SL without lots of non-realistic places, and also places where furries, robots and distorted avatars fit the setting.
In the not-too-distant future I see virtual worlds offering settings that are movie-quality, and more. Someday I'll be able to sit in a Paris street cafe and smell the food and feel the breeze and hear nearby conversation. In that setting I don't want even human avatars to fly in.

Nothing wrong with walking around. It's just at places that I want to get away from REAL fast without teleporting that I might fly briefly. Oh, and noone's gonna see my hips sway when I fly, VERY important detail I'd say.
For the underwear: of course I wear underwear. I'm never in a hurry to get undressed, it kills the suspense (and something else) too fast.

From: Malia Writer ROFLMAO!!!!! I think I love you!
/me is just grateful we don't smash poo into our foreheads... Lol yes! (well - on some sims...Lol. Nevermind. ) -- I like the Extensionist/Immersionist labels, those fit well. Count me firmly among the Immersionists. It really grates like a rusty file along my back teeth, when someone *insists* others have to play their way. Some get really aggressive about it, too. Oh sure THAT's someone I'd travel to meet in real life. ...Not.

augmentationist ... I found the original article about it just the other day ... http://slcreativity.org/wiki/index.php?title=Augmentation_vs_ImmersionInteresting stuff, and not a new debate. I'm firmly in the immersionist camp, even though my main av doesn't look all that different from my RL self. It alarms me that SL seems to be moving further and further in the direction of an augmentationist agenda, for example, we are promised new tools that will appeal to the Twitface crowd. Also interesting to note is how M and T Linden use each others' RL names in inworld interviews. I like Immy's "believable, not realistic". One bit of realism I would love is if we could sail the western oceans between all those islands, shouting "Ahoy there!" as our ships pass.

From: Ceera Murakami LoL! In SL, you could acttually do a sim based on that old Beatles song... Of course, the Beatles were writing about early LSD trippers... Try telling Lucy Vodden that ...

"Augmentation" reminds me of breast implant surgery. Not a bad article though. I think some of the definitions in the article are a bit off. Going to a concert in SL can still be roleplayed and part of the immersive SL experience. Immersion is not a complete denial of real life. It is only a feeling that one immerses oneself into the created reality of Second Life. Similar to seeing a movie and forgetting other things for those two hours. It doesn't mean people forget they are still in the real world, eating popcorn and feeling the person in back of them kick their seat. Just that it would be inappropriate to go up and stand in front of the movie screen and introduce themselves by name.

I wish RL was more like SL, I would quite happily take on the appearance of a furry or robot if it were practical and socially acceptable
