I haven't really watched tv for years. The one I have is just some old thing with basic cable stations that other people watch if they come over. My computer... thats a totally different story. I've had to replace a power supply and ram in recent months and I was in a panic both times hoping that it wasn't something more drastic. I had a secondary pc up until a several months ago, but that died completely, so rather than buy some cheap thing for just internet browsing and such, I've decided to get something better than I have now. And yes, SL was the determining factor in that decision.

Today, I have lost all hope in Microsoft. This is after I had posted this thread.
My computer had "Updated" and now whenever I start it there is no internet connection. to fix this I have to restart my Ethernet card every time I power on the computer. Sadly this is not enough to make me switch to a Mac, but if I can find a "Replacement Part" all for repairing the problem.
On a different note, my router is acting up, getting a better router with a full featured firewall would allow me to turn off my computers firewalls (Save money through power consumption) - internal murmuring of a mind just waking up in the middle of the night.

My TV died a few months back, and I replaced it with a new monitor for my PC and a PCTV card.
Pros: I could pack away my DVD player & watch DVDs on my PC now I had a decent-sized screen. I could pack away my set-top receiver and watch TV on my PC. I could use my PC to time-shift TV programs, so I didn't need a VCR for that. I reduced the number of cables around my room by about 75%. I have a big hi-def screen to experience SL through. The monitor was about half the price of a TV of similar size and resolution.
Cons: The monitor I chose doesn't have inputs for my VCR or games consoles. I'd rarely used them in the last six months, so that's not too big a deal, but I don't have the option now on the odd occasion I fancy it. The PCTV software, like Wile E. Coyote's ACME jetpack, crashes frequently or just fails to initialise (so far it hasn't exploded, leaving me blackened with soot, but give it time). I can't just flick the TV on and watch - which you might say is as much a pro as it is a con.

There will always be a TV in my RL household because others would want to watch even if I didn't!
Re replacing computer. I'm planning to do that after my second rezday in Sept. I sometimes get to log in to SL on a really good comp and now my old laggy one seems poor by comparison. I'm hoping to become more conversant with 3D modelling outside SL and the new comp will help with that too.

Both my TV and computer are wired to my eyelids!!! When my eyelids open both get switched on and stay that way till I go downstairs to work then my laptop takes over.
