Hi there I hope it's okay to ask this here. My friend is looking for a female skin which is featured in ads at Catnip. The face is heaviy bruised, particularly the left eye and there's a cut across the nose. There are also bruises on the breasts. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Just message Akasha ,she owns the the store "catnip" and I believe those adds are 'her" in them..I saw her there this morning and she had that skin on.
Not for sure she would be willing to share the designer if they are unique to her..but usually creatoive types are quite friendly.

The place that comes to mind is Dysorder - they have male and female beaten up skins in a variety of shades and ethnicities. The wounds described sound pretty similar to what they have on hand.
I have seen a bunch of other skin makers who also sell bruised and beaten up skins, but most are for guys. I'll try to post here again if i find another for ladies.

I haven't seen the ads in question, but Nomine also has a whole line of skins like that-- might want to check them out as well.

If you want to add these effects to existing skin, check out the GutterPup store. It is sellig bruised/beaten effects as clothing (glove/jacket/underpant/...) layers.

If you're just looking for a more localised "bruising" etc then check out Damage (how apt, Dave). This of course being in reference to the derriere ...

And The Good Life (oddly enough) also has some "bruised" skins. I didn't look closely and the bruises might just be on the face.

I just can't fathom wanting to walk around bruised and beaten. But then, I don't get the need to come to SL and have 2 or 3 kids either

This being said, there is still no layer for tattoos or bruising or whatever on the face. I'm going to plug a JIRA issue here; go vote for it! It's to get more layers added to the avatar, so that we can have tattoos in addition to clothing... here's the link. Don't forget to log into the system (upper right) using your SL avatar name and password. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1449

I *believe* we dress up like a cat, or robot, or vampire or a fashion model, because it satisfies some need inside of us, or fulfills some fantasy. I'm trying to envision the "need" or "fantasy" of walking around looking like someone beat the hell out of you....

@Honey> I can see your point of view, but can think of circumstances where wearing a battered skin might be something someone might seek (such as roleplay or machinima). It is true, though, that some might seek such skins as part of some sort of expression of the self at the time. It might also just be that they're looking for such products just to 'look cool' too - consider the macabre costumes we often see over Halloween?
In some cases, it does bother me - like the bullet wounds to the head, or skins that show welts from whipping.
But I am really not one who ought to cast stones, given that I tend to make skins that are rather out of the ordinary myself.
Ultimately, I think it's another product that some people view as something 'cool' and others might view as part of their 'kink'. It is hard to generalize really who view such products in what way... and it's really the context of the product that matters. If the use of such a product is in part an indication of greater and deeper personal trauma of a friend you know, then for sure, i think its use is disturbing and should probably be discussed.

In addition to what is already stated, there are some people who get off on very violent sex. They wear the bruises with pride. Well, in RL anyway, so I would presume the same can be said for SL. You think up a fetish, and there's already somebody who is into it.

From: HoneyBear Lilliehook Thank you Aki - you're getting where I'm coming from exactly. All I can say is if any drastic change shows up in a friend, it's probably something you ought to investigate with them, as a friend. I would probably similarly question any other drastic change in a friend's online lifestyle - the rapid adoption of Gor to someone's lifestyle, for instance, or even a drastic stylistic change (like someone who goes from looking fairly normal to fairly gussied up, for instance). Far more people in SL are subject to this than those who go for beaten up skins, imo. It is definitely a thin line along which many tread when they go for this stuff, and yes in many cases it is the expression of what one wishes to be or finds attractive in some way. The key is discerning whether such a thing is enhancing or being a detriment to the individual's experience in second life, and imo that is very much driven by context.

The beat up look is quite popular with what some people call "emo kids".
But it's not always a dark thing. Battered stuff tends to look more realistic. This is why grunge is quite popular in SL. Dirty clothing, cars, houses etc. The battered skins are just a logical progression from that. They feel the stuff has character and looks realistic. Or as they might say "It's cool!". That's all..

When I wear a beaten up skin, it doesn't mean I was the *victim*-but then again, I don't think I'd come across as very victimised. It's more of an urban cyberpunk-y getting in a gangfight thing for me...am I making sense? I used to show around my scraped knees and bruises from falling off trees and stuff as a kid, too. Trophies of survival!

I'm trying to envision the "need" or "fantasy" of walking around looking like someone beat the hell out of you.... it's not always about fantasy, sometimes it just about representing something, real or imaginary, that we feel needs to be spoken (or in this case shown). and they aren't always happy things... sometimes that's how we deal with them, or even point them out to others, or just a reflection of how we feel that day. if I feel beat up by the flu or something, it's a bit of gallows humor to wear a skin like that (I don't but I can see the possibility) similarly there's some easy jokes in there too("All I did was ask if they knew where my socks were..." or "you should see the other person" ... and I can definitely see some potential for RP of various sorts.... dark, but very real.... but I also admit to being one to be proud of bruises, especially hickey and bite marks that stay sore for awhile.... to me it's a happy reminder of some very wild fun =) From: Alyx Sands When I wear a beaten up skin, it doesn't mean I was the *victim*-but then again, I don't think I'd come across as very victimised. no I don't think anyone would make that mistake
