What is a deformer and how do you "undeform?"

There was another thread about someone who was setting a "deformer" out in a sandbox. What on earth is this? I found a deformer on SLX that looks like it messes up your avatar. Is this a permanent thing? How do you fix yourself if this happens to you? Does a re-log fix it?

I've heard that some orbiters can do weird things to avatars and attachments. Is this the same thing?

That thread was the first time I had heard the term "deformer" as well.

Would also like to know.

I have come across one deformer - a relog fixed me right up. I was a fair newbie - scared me - thought it was permenant. ack!

when u tp from one to another place u can see sometimes that your attachments change position...
so u can manualy change position or just relog,
and me neither hear about deformer former, transformers maybe dunno ...

A friend of mine was hit by a griefer 'deformer', she took some pics at the time. I think they use either some kind of animation or some kind of physics hack... they literally deform your avatar, so you're all bent and warped and twisted. A relog was the only way to fix it. I've since seen 'undeformers' now and then, I think even Mystitool has one in it now.

From the pics I saw, it does look really wierd and unpleasant, and if a relog is necessary then it'd violate the TOS for certain.

i have a 'camping chair' that deforms ppl if they sit in it. it basically makes your av resemble something from a picasso
the only way to fix yourself after sitting in it is to relog.

There are some cute poses around that translate appendages into really strange positions, and the usual stop animations business won't put you back into shape. A relog will fix you up though.

My hubby was given something (man, i need to teach him about safe sex or something!) that stretches his neck out to ostrich proportions. The first time it freaked us out, because we didn't know how to fix it, but a log off/on straightened him right out. Now he thinks it's funny.

I thought a deformer was just an animation overrider for things like macro avatars and tinies?

If so then it merely plays an animation which squishes you into an unusual shape to make the avatar work better. You either have to wear it, or if a malicious object offers to animate you then clicking Yes can end up deforming you.

However, all you should have to do is take off the object, or go to the (I think) "Tools" menu and select "Stop all animations".

There is a commercial deformer for sale chep in some of the gadget stores and they were giving away "Red Buttons" that do the Undeform...otherwise you have to relog to undeform. The deformers are fun when you are doing it to yourself. If it happened to you without knwoing what is was, it would be disconcerting,

The deformer used by griefers is similar, Haravikk, but instead of squishing you small, it makes you look stretched out, as if you'd been thrown in a cement mixer, then run over by a steamroller. Stop all Animations or taking off the object does NOT undeform you.

"Undeformer" objects are free on SLX...anyone selling them for money is in the same leaky boat as any other freebie reseller. But a relog will fix the problem, no undeformer required.

I've seen deformers disguised as Hug attachments, as Gestures, as a dance called "Superdance", and now as a stack of nukes that invites you to sit on it.

I hate them, and I hate the cretins who think such practical jokes are "funny." May they all be banished to Lag Hell.

Here's a couple of pics where it has happened to a couple of friends of mine. The only way they were able to "undeform" was to relog.

"Deformers" were only known to me untill recently in 3d apps such as Maya.

Recently I have seen such gagets in SL named "Voodoo" or such like ..
You had to click accept when offered the animation .. which for example twisted your head looking backwards ( excorsist style ) .. or twisted you limbs in "painfull" directions.

I have never come across one which could do this against an av's will .. i.e. without accepting or atleast without 2 clicks.

One of these was done as a prank by his girlfriend. The other occurred when sitting on a chair and it appears it was not the intended result.

If you want to see a non-griefer use of the deformer, go to Gloomy Sunday. There is a reformer there also, but it doesn't always work. Probably better if you know how to fix yourself

there is a freebie couch out there that does this as well.

ROFL! These are TOO funny! I so totally want to go deform myself now, just to see what I look like. I think we should put one up at the Hangout for Halloween.

I was given one named after the movie "300". Made my AV look like a praying mantis.

It was neat! But the only annoyance was I had to relog to get back to normal.
