Jethro, Up until now, LL has let land extortion be a common practice on the mainland. I'm sorry the new owner is turning out to be the neighbor from hell, but I would not put a lot of hope into the possibility that the land will be taken from him. He bought it and it's his. Unless he is doing something that is a blatant violation of the TOS, LL won't take the land back.

You can only hope that he someday lowers it to a price that is more reasonable. Obviously, you aren't going to pay the price he's trying to extort out of you at the present time.

He did buy it and it is his. I would never think to ask LL to punish someone else because of LL's technical issues. What I did propose would make everyone happy.

Reporting him for extortion is just a way to put a black mark on his record. I think if more people reported extortionists and some of them were reported on multiple occasions, then LL would eventually have to take action. And those with a recorded history would be the first to go.

Ok, using my better judgement I decided not to grief this extortionist (at least not until I hear back from concierge).

But I did build a mega prim mural all around him, albeit with his side clear so that that I couldn't be accused of any wrong doing. (But I do admit that his side was bright pink for a few minutes before I decided that it might not help my case.)

So now he's making random objects to stack up over my mega-prim wall. Which means that I will just have to stack another wall on top of mine and another and another... I have 4000 'available' prims to his 200, so he won't win that game.

Hey, I guess it's time that I make a psuedo 'high rise' apartment in the middle of my land. That should show him that I'm in this stand-off for the long haul. And maybe I will name it 'Extortion Towers'! lol

Anyway, based on his actions so far, there is no way that anybody will beleive for a second that this guy bought the land for any other purpose than to extort me. Because if he truly wanted to market this alledgedly 'high value' property, he'd have made it look like a high value property.

And if he was going to live there, he wouldn't have left his BSD Archer House railing and fireplace sitting in the yard while he started stacking random objects on top of his house.

I'm not sure. Why don't you go check on them and then let us know.

As for me, I'm Jethro Stubbs, the hillbilly. Do you think a true hillbilly would consider walking away from a fued? No, we get the shotgun and boobie trap the still! ;-)

Update: I'm happy, the extortionist is long gone and Linden is a-ok in my book.

Since it sold to another resident, there is nothing LL will do at this point.

Let's just say that under this very unusual circumstance, where I was unable to logon to the auction due to a 'SL website' error, I surrounded this land on all 4 sides and the auction winner turned out to be a very blatant extortionist, Linden stepped up and did what was right and what was fair to all concerned. And they did it so that I did not pay the extortionist a single Linden.

Although I helped them in the process by ARing him, first for extortion, then a few days later for emittor spam when he tried to escalate his annoyance in the face of my standing firm. That tactic and my heckling IM's, forced him to lower his price considerably.

This incident also coincided with the new anti-adfarm/anti-extortion policy that started the same week, which probably also played a large factor in resolving this issue.

But regardless of how or why it was resolved properly, Harmony Linden was very helpful and LL is very lucky to have her on their team!

So yes, standing your ground against an extortionist does indeed work and people calling you names in a forum for doing so should not prevent anyone from doing what is right.

I'm happy to hear that things worked out for you, and that LL did the right thing.

Of course I only know what happened by what you described-

If he was a legitimate extortionist is one thing-

But the impression you gave is you surrounded him and then you two played neighbor feud wars with each other.

If his "extortion" was the result of a feud which you had any involvement propagating then his land seizure was unfair.

If you didn't do anything except live next to him (on all sides) and he extorted you well then - that is different.

Nobody said his land was seized. I said they did "what was fair to all concerned". Does that sound like a land seizure to you??

But at least now I know how you got the wrong impression from my other posts.

Bad timing for you at first. Then good timing with the new ruling. Congrats. :)

How is it you have his land but didn't have to pay him a single Linden if his land wasn't seized?

Linden accepted responsibility for the technical issue that created this admittedly unique situation and under these unique circumstances, they did what was fair to all involved. That's all that needs to be said.

So they gave him land somewhere else or they paid him back.

Why didn't you just say so in the first place.

Maybe I wanted to see if you could figure it out all by yourself?

Umm no, that wasn't it...Oh yeah, now I remember.

I gave the information that was necessary to communicate that this issue had been resolved amicably for all parties. How it was resolved was really nobodies business but mine, his and Lindens. And it still isn't.

Thank you. And it was certainly a suprise to me, considering all the pessimism I see directed towards LL!

Hey, I didn't start this thread making your business and his business the subject of discussion.

You did.
