Why Do You Use An Alt?

She's just incredibly honest.

One reason to have alts is because it's fun to get thirty or forty alts, make a pit near a store, puts the alts there, then watch people start investigating, putting pictures on snapzilla, starting threads in forums, displaying pictures, making jokes about zombies, etc. Particularly fun listening to and reading the store owner's denial of any knowledge of them being met with incredulity.

If I log in as Ace, I have to deal with my stacked up IMs, and any that come in while I'm on, or else I lose them- offlines aren't so bad because I have them in gmail anyway, but I wouldn't remember to chase them up. Any IMs I get while logged in, though, I can't ignore. If I crash, or close SL without dealing with them, I lose them forever.

So I log in an alt to do quiet work, or whatever, and save logging in Ace until I can put aside some time to deal with support for anyone that needed more than a quick reply from email. I use alts also to guarantee some totally quiet time, and to hold some group tier.

Now that I think of it I am an alt.

I used to be an alt. Long story short, my former master is dead.

I have my own alts now - I need to keep a close eye on them so they don't gang up on me. It's a dog eat dog world out there - that's why my alts are human.

My alt has a BF. I don't. At least not at the moment.

I work as a PI, and it says that all over my profile, so when i'm tailing someone, I always use an alt. Sometimes it's necessary to use more than one, especially with the number of sims now that have fixed TP locations. If you've just TPd into a sim next to the target, then it ain't wise to TP into the next as the same avi.

I've also been used my alts to "test" people that i've had a relationship with in the past, tho i don't do this anymore.

That and when you get banned, its just your alt.

Flock is a social browser, a modified version of Firefox (or perhaps related Mozilla code). It has a problem; it likes to generate the error message shown below when I try to use my wordpress blog.

I am attempting to get them to at least put this problem in the public list of known issues. The problem has been reported since at least as far back as October. The Flock staff provide worarounds but the workarounds don't work.

There may be other Flock users in SL - if so I'd like the report the error if it happens to them.

There might be someone in the Flock staff in SL: if so, I want them to know that news of Flock's problem is getting spread around, so maybe they will want to fix the problem and stop having the bad publicity.

I suppose if you had enough alts you could stage a "Fix Flock's Sake Fix Flock!" protest.

I realized that my main account was slowly becoming more and more like my rl self, taking on my real life personality and mannerisms. So I made an alt account so that I could be someone else different again.

I have one alt who runs my business. I am not a bookkeeper type. Having all the money come and go through one account makes it easier for me to keep track. I pay my main avie a salary.

Role playing, I love to rp and I see nothing wrong with crafting an avie to fit the part your playing.

My last alt is my secret shopper alt. I can slip into it and see how my employees are doing and how my customers getting along. People are funny, no matter how sincerely you ask for their opinion, often you do not get a honest answer.

I do wish SL would allow us to hold our own inventory or allow us to link our alts to one inventory.
It would be nice not to buy multiple copies of things you find useful. I can hear the content creators screaming "NNNNoooooooooooooo"
