Hmmm.

"Toplevel routing issues".

Last time something like this happened at my workplace was because our backbone provider had a DNS attack (clearly they hadn't coughed up the Roubles).

Wonder if this is similar? If it's their net provider there's prolly little they can do. Guessing something has just borked though.

WELL I personally am looking forward to going to Nandos :D

I remember a little after when I started, SL was like crack for me, it went down for 2 days. It was just before New Years. It wasn't offline completely the entire time but only a handful could get in. If they did SL was pretty useless. That was Dec 2004.

SL was like this for awhile off and on limping along. SL updates were the worst because they say it would take 4 hours every Tuesday but it regularly took 6 to 8 hours.

The longest the main grid has been down was from 11,000,000,000 BC to June 2003.

I remember the 2004 one. We actually got 1000L compensation, then the next thing to happen was the no compensation crap was added to the TOS.

Ahhhhhh... the good old days. I'd actually tried to log in with all of my alts the day it crashed and made out like a bandit.

But yes, that was the longest the grid has ever been down.

compensation
04-05-2008 07:42
ok lets all bet on whether or not we get any compensation, ie, classifieds and upcoming membership fees. My bet is a NO.

As a sl business owner, i could not even imagine not compensating my costumers, whether its my fault or not. I guess that is the difference between us and them.

The only time I can recall (in two years) that the grid was truly down for everyone (no lucky people who logged in before the problem hit) is the time they introduced a permissions exploit. They logged everyone out and the grid remained "offline" for about 5-6 hours for everyone.

When we had the password reset I don't remember it being offline really... I remember seeing the announcement and worrying that I wouldn't remember the security question so I stayed logged on until I was able to reset my password and then I relogged.

When the asset server/cluster died in December 2006 the grid was restricted for just under 12 hours, but a few hundred people managed to hang on so you can debate whether the grid was really down or not :p.

The most annoying time I can remember wasn't a time when the grid was down though, but when they disabled Search (and Search / Places specifically)... that lasted the better part of a week?

I remember the grey goo attacks, it would be real spotty for a week, off/on/off/on I was logged in most of the time so I got to stay when they would close logins while they cleaned up the mess.

The Wednesday updates never were all that bad really. it was the following Thursday bugfest that was bad. LL also had a bad habit for a while of installing new server code on Fridays leaving the grid crippled for the weekend. Luckily they seemed to have gotten away from that.......hmmmm.........until this weekend that is.

Asset server issues for 3 weeks, the server code update, the stress test, and the push to the 1.19 viewer gridwide and suddenly a "3rd party vendor" is causing all the problems, they will have to forgive me if I don't buy that one.
