Paranoia.
People DO, do some odd ball stuff in SL when it comes to relationships. I just happen to believe that those people are an extreme minority.

It's not paranoia. I've just heard a lot of those "to make a long story short" stories.

AR for TOS violation and fraud/theft. Perhaps also a trip to local small claims court since real money was involved in the theft. $20,000 Lindens is about $50, right? From: Tammi Viper Correct me if I am wrong but I think a felony only kicks in over 3-400 usd? Is that right? More like $5000, I think. As for how someone finds out about an alt - if they have some of the same friends, that's one way. As for how someone could figure out a password - some words are too easy or common, other words are figured out by knowing the person - a lot of people choose pet names for instance. It's hardly unheard of. (And no I am not in the habit of either practise, in case anyone wonders.)

More like $5000, I think. ... $75.47 at the most typical exchange rate.

TOS violation/accessing an account
10-08-2009 15:52
What does LL do about someone who would access an account to find out personal information? Such as names of alts, land rental/purchase transactions, etc. Is no money taken, but something more valuable has been stolen: right to privacy.

ID theft is a felony and the amount of money taken from the account is only fuel to add to any charges one might want to press. There is personal information tied to that account......and that is where the felony comes into play.
If this story is true, the girl friend could find herself in a heap of trouble she never bargained for...........I'd go straight to LL with all pertinent information. It's a billing problem so a phone call would be my step. Cutting off all access to the payment method would be a top priority. Then a call to the FBI (I believe they investigate online ID theft).

From: someone How did she find out about his alt? imho, there is no alt. me thinks he is making a fast getaway. the ex is a convenient excuse. From: someone How did she figure out his new password? see above From: someone Why would he log into SL and chit chat before addressing a major security issue, and change the password immediately? because he needed to set up a plausible story before disappearing into another alt. From: someone Sorry.....I just hear too many of these stories. The "to make a long story short" ones. If she found out about the alt...he made it too easy. If she figured out a password....he made it too easy. If he didn't view it as a major security problem....it's too easy. Maybe his whole story is a little "too easy." agrees. have also seen this, and it usually means that the FL wife/girlfriend/ significant other, has found out about his shenanigans online, and he's doing a bit of clean up. while this does stink, i also say file it under lesson learned. and know that not every guy out there is an a$$hole.

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.
