Just guessing but think it is a reflection or a nod to "God-Mode" where using a cheat code you can step outside of game boundaries and do pretty much what a god would do- like avoid being killed or skip levels like that- A million years ago I played something called Heretic II -it's cheat was to write Kiwi - in the setup of the game- you were then invisible :) Even then I didn't get to pick up the last tome ... :( /me digs frantically thru dust bunnies for moldy old PC Heretic game...


Doom was IDKFA, you couldn't be killed and had unlimited ammo. Most remembered it as I Dare Kill F------ All !

Doom by ID Software. ID Kicks F'n A$$. And I think that one just gave you all the guns and ammo. There was a different one that kept you from getting hurt.


I assumed the name for the God mode came from the old text based MUDs. Gods on those had all kinds of neat abilities. At times, it kinda sucks being a common mortal again.
