Any drumbeats out there yet, about compatibility with this new OS being released soon, and SL? I intend to get it, to replace Vista, but wondering if anyone's heard anything negative about it liking or not liking SL.

I've been running Sl just fine under Windows 7 since about February.

I been running Win7 since the RC release. I'd go as far to say that SL runs better on Win7x64 than it did on XP for me. (^_^)

About 2 months into it... I pre-ordered Win7x64 Ultimate. Really... Vista is to WinME what Win7 is to WinXP. I've never been more pleased with an OS... And this includes 2 month runs in Ubuntu, YellowDog, and Debian. (^_^)y

Is this being sold in OEM machines yet? I will be getting a new one to replace this XP machine probably at the end of the year.

A friend of mine at Microsoft calls Win7 "Windows Apology." He was not a fan of Vista.

Coincidentally, this is very close to the time the next iteration of Ubuntu (9.10 "Karmic Koala";) is due out (29 October), with a lot of emphasis on visual appeal and tightening performance (faster boot times and so on).

End of October is certainly going to be exciting!

I've been running Windows 7 at work on the RC and I've been pretty impressed with it. However I don't run SL at work so can't comment on how that performs.

If you're a student in the US you can get if for thirty bucks and if you're a student in the UK you can get it for thirty quid.

They will ship on October 22nd. Most computers sold at the moment come with an upgrade.

Of all the companies I've been to, the ones doing test roll-outs of Windows 7 have been VERY pleased with it.

I have the Vista Ultimate 64-bit with free upgrade to 7 option, but might just get 7 and upgrade later. I havent had any issues with Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

This is exciting news! I have never been so upset with any Windows version as I have with this horrible Vista nanny monster. I'm almost to the point of wiping my drive and starting over with a whole new one.

I take it you didn't use the extreme pile of pants known as "Millenium Edition".

I'm still running Windows 2000, so I've skipped Vista and XP. I may skip Seven as well. I'm using Vista at work, with everything I can set to "Windows Classic" mode and Seven has removed a lot of the remaining "Windows Classic" options.

Next thing you know, you'll be saying that your Macs run System 6.5 + Multifinder and that you are still playing Dark Castle.

Uhm..I liked ME. I used it for 5 years without any problems. It was the OS in the first PC I owned.
