And here's why, from CNet:

____________

Linden Lab, too, is a bit unapologetic about its technical headaches, promising that it has been working to eradicate them but encouraging both current and prospective residents to accept them as a necessary component of such an experimental medium. Second Life got to where it is, Rosedale explained, by not waiting for the kinks to iron themselves out.

"If we had had that sort of traditional 'stop, think carefully, seek feedback, listen to everybody' (mentality), I can tell you that as the entrepreneur behind this thing, even starting in 1999, we wouldn't be here. We wouldn't have made it," Rosedale said.

Sorry all, I reported this to LL yesterday. But was told it was me or my computer, they have no issues. So all of you can blame me too. I will try to fix the lag and freezes.

Now what key do I hot to fix it?

Anyone else not have a 'User Ping' reading in the Ctrl+Shift+1 information window?

I've seen the Sim pings jump to over 10kmsec... Time Dilation fluctuating and packet loss jumping to 500% .. not sure how you loose 500%.. I mean 100% of something it everything LOL. Either way, its all server side for the most part. My connection tests prove I'm good...

I did notice that when SL freezes, I check the task manager and see 2 versions of SL running.. would that be somehow linked to the Dual Core issue?

For what it's worth I can wander around in my home (very quiet) sim all day without a problem. BUT if I get stuck into building there I can expect to crash every hour or two and if I'm searching my textures it is certain to splat inside an hour. Elsewhere everything is fine until I venture into texture heavy places like a mall, then the intermittent freezing is likely to start after a while. Im running a dual core with bags of ram and my conection is fast with only occsional packet loss. Given the picture (built up over some weeks now, since I upgraded the hardware) it looks as if its intensive graphics handling at the root of most of my crashing, even tho I have a mid to high range card.

I noticed that my "User Ping" has been staying a zero for the past 10 days or so. I have also done many tests and traceroutes on 3 different systems. They all test fine.

I am not getting much for packet loss, but the "Ping Sim" can just go crazy. What I don't understand, is, if my client is not talking to the server for 30 seconds, why is there no packet loss?

Packet loss = 500% ( I guess I am sending my 100% to AWM) hehe! :)

It seems that included in the latest bug fix round, they have now removed the User Ping and adjusted the packet loss variable..

Oh and most important, the have decapitlised the Kbps to kbps in the bandwidth reading.... hope that linked to the freezing issue LOL..
