I'm browsing these threads trying to find and answer so I don't have to post a new thread.... lol But I guess I will anyway....just to clarify. It isn't JUST me that's freezing all the dam time.... logging in and staying gray for up to 5 minutes.... I'm soooo painfully frustrated with SL lately. My PC is well equipped to handle it and all gaming...Nvidia is updated.... and oh yeah...I still am having a hell of a time editing appearance because my AV is still wanting to turn sideways. (yeah yeah yeah, my AO is off)

Make me feel better.....tell me I'm not the only one *sniffle* *pout*

It is so bad tonight....I freeze every minute or so....and just had to log off because I couldn't move out of the spot I was in....yet I was still logged in (usually when that happens it means you've crashed already) It's insane...I'm almost wondering if I need to ditch my current SL and reinstall it.... any thoughts? Or is that pointless?

Yeah, it's pointless.

But I do find that I don't freeze when I'm up in my sky box above my little plot of land on an island sim. Whether it's because my sim is free from the problem, or whether the problem is related to a sim being busy, I dunno.

I should do some tests.

little bit here and there but nothing as bad as usual
(now that I said that I am sure when I log back in I will crash) heh

I asked the Lindens why I keep crashing, and was told its the server not knowing that you are properly logged in or out.. my service is so limmited in SL, im considering withdrawing my L$, selling my inventory and leaving.. its pretty bad, logged out, or 'freeze' every 5 mins or so.

I'm crashing every hour or so... for no reason... no warning and its instant... no freeze up.. everything fine up to the crash... then i am back at desktop.

I managed to stay on longest where there were fewest textures.. a busy mall and i only managed about two minutes at a time. I too am fairly safe in my skybox... which is good because...

teleporting is VERY bad... it goes into a slow slow build across the bar and then about half way it freezes completely... if i cancel i log out..

and.... having to make three attempts at least to rezz anything on the ground

Ummm. .probably a few more things, but that'll do for now.

You are not alone....

No crashing but freezing up consistently ... oh and trying to go into appearance mode only turns me around 1/4 turn. Has since the current voice client. No biggie since I can cam and pan to see wtf I am doing ... but weird.

I'd just....see...I don't ask for much, but...

When I log on, I'd like to be wearing pants. I'm homeless, so I show up at an infohub with other people. Pants is all I ask. I'm ok with no top and bald. Just a little dignity?

Seriously, last night was a mess. I logged on, couldn't get pants, couldn't put hair on, even though, let's face it, I make bald look good. I had to tp to another site to get it to reset, then rebake, take off skin, put on skin, take off clothes one at a time, replace with same clothes. Tattoo disappeared, which was ok, since it was one of my less impressive efforts, so I had to re-wear that. Then my face looked like someone had smeared watercollors on a blank head.

sigh. It's ok. I'm better now.

I rarely have inexplicable trouble and I believe I have Nicholaz to thank for that. :)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

It was so bad last night i had to give the login 5 tries to get in because it kept dropping me off without loading the sim. What i mean is i ended up in what appeared to be my own sim, but there was nothing there but sky, water, and me as a ruth. Trying other sims produced the same results. Doesn't matter how long you wait for it to load it never does. After about the 5th time i finally got logged in and it was ok from then on.

It's odd though. My issue was happening no matter which viewer i used, so it was a issue with server linking i guess.

That's why I threw the 'inexplicable' in there...it doesn't matter how good the Nicholaz viewer is if the servers and such are having issues.

And here's why, from CNet:

____________

Linden Lab, too, is a bit unapologetic about its technical headaches, promising that it has been working to eradicate them but encouraging both current and prospective residents to accept them as a necessary component of such an experimental medium. Second Life got to where it is, Rosedale explained, by not waiting for the kinks to iron themselves out.

"If we had had that sort of traditional 'stop, think carefully, seek feedback, listen to everybody' (mentality), I can tell you that as the entrepreneur behind this thing, even starting in 1999, we wouldn't be here. We wouldn't have made it," Rosedale said.

well thank you phil old bean we appreciate you too..(heavy sarcasm)
really, imo, it ceased being an "experiment" once the price tag was slapped on.

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

No kidding Maggie! I guess compared to a lot of people....my woes are not so bad.....my 2 biggest issues have been the freezing and the 1/4 turn in edit appearance.... I have stability over all in the game....If I crash....with the a rare exception....it's usually after I've been on for (blush) hours....hehe.....so I think my PC is just over it. lol

My system has been rock steady since I've been using Nick's viewer.

Look at the stats
08-28-2007 12:33
Ctrl+Shift+1.

Those of you that are having this freezing problem will probably see
"Ping Sim" with numbers like 3,000 msec and even up to 10,000 msec.

It tends to jump up and down and from my experience, it is related to the sim that you are in. My Villa in Tipsakan has very little problems but my shop in Jingyo, it spikes into the 3k & 4k range then back down to 108 msec.

Changing viewers will not help. We just have to wait for LL to get straightened out. :(

probably something wrong on my end, but I crash more often when trying to use that viewer or any variation of that viewer than just using SL. annoying . .. .. Nick's was better before . . .

I guess I live a charmed existence.

Standard current voice-chat enabled viewer...
no crashes, no hangs, *VERY* few disconnects.
(which is more likely the fault of my wi-fi card
when I'm trying to use SL from my laptop in
areas with poor signal).

I haven't been in a sim that crashed for weeks.
I do still sink through the ground when crossing
sim boundaries, but I find my vehicles get set
non-physical far less often than they used to
when crossing sims.

I know some folks are experiencing legit problems,
I'm just glad that I'm not one of them.

(I use both mac and PC to access SL, btw.)
