Sky platform problem..

Today I decided to build a Sky Platform...

I enlisted the help of the 'Building' forum for advice and guidance..then launched myself along with a 10 x 10 prim to 500m..which I promptly fell off as soon as I stood up..so there's a 10 x 10 prim up there somewhere..well you probably get the picture.

The solution..according to the 'Building' forum..was to put one smaller prim on a larger prim..sit on the smaller..and "away you go..".. Sounded good to me..and you've guessed it, I was left sitting on the smaller prim while the larger was launched upwards to join the first 10 x 10 prim..now I have two prims up there..somewhere..

So having now given up on the 'Building' forum...

Could anyone..possibly..advise me on..

1. How to build and launch a sky platform..preferrably one I don't fall off

2. How to delete the two 10 x 10 prims I now have hovering above Laurentia

Oh by the way..I used to have a set of flight feathers..but managed to delete them..are you surprised..no of course not!!

build the platform on the ground first, then link it, type in 600 or whatever elevation you want and send it up. Fly up and landmark it. If you need help in game with this, IM me, I am just doing some light remodeling at the moment.

if you need a rod to get you all the way up there, I can send you one for free in-game.

Terra Magic Carpet is a good starter's building platform -- it's free, and locks in place when you type 'stop'. I'll drop you one in-world.

I always do it the other way round - sit on a .5 cube, set the Z axis to 200, 300 whatever height I want, and then build and link my platform when I get up there. Move the little cube over the platform before standing up, and you won't fall off.

I've had good luck building my skybox using MystiTool by Mystical Cookie Designs. Among the many useful SL living tools in MystiTool is a Sky Platform Elevator which rezzes a little space-type vehicle that takes you to whatever height you want to be at and gives you a choice of size of platform to rez. It even waits for you at the corner of you platform til you're ready to go! I recommend MystiTool for all the other cool things it does, too. You can get a freebie or a paid version.

if you sit on something that uses a poseball, or even just a prim box, and then adjust the elevation, you should ride the object up while sitting on it. just don't stand up until you have a secure place to stand.

i do it all the time.

Perre, just out of curiosity, do you not have a flight feather or some other flight assist that lets your av fly as high as you want? Falling off the platform isn't a problem when you wear the flight feather.

Simple method:

Make a 2M wide x 0.5M x 0.5M cube prim, sit on one end of it, and with your camera focussed on yourself, edit the Z-height of the prim to the desired altitude. You will zip up to that altitude, 'riding' that prim.

BEFORE you stand up, rez another prim *on the end of the prim you are sitting on*. That is why you made this prim longer before riding it up - so you have an end free to rez things on. Streach this new prim out into a 10 x 10 platform, and move it down below your feet.

NOW you can stand up, which will have you standing on the newly-created platform. Rez additional prims on the platform, and enjoy building in the sky!

Look for the MystiTool in Search, Classifieds. They have a free version at the store. This tool has a rezzable temporary platform that you can use as a building platform at any height. It also has a Flight Assist tool, that way you can fly up to any height you want.

or the most fail safe trick for starters

create a 10x10 prim
create a 0.5x0.5 prim in the center
set the 10x10 to 500m
sit on the 0.5 and set it to 505m

Hehee! I can't help but be reminded of the times I alt-cam in really close to make delicate adjustments to the Z position to try to get something to line up:

I now keep an orange 10m dia disc with a seat in the middle in my inventory. I just rez it on the ground and use it to get up high. It's big enough to stand up on in the sky and I can rez a structure on it so the seat sticks through inside it so when I stand up I'm standing on the floor of the structure and can delete the disc without falling

I generally rez a 0.5x0.5x0.5 prim, sit on it, send it to the elevation I want. Once up there, change the size to 10x10x0.5. Now when you stand up, you will be standing on the middle of your prim. Flight assistance is a good idea too though.

What i use is a Work Platform i Purchased on one of the Amazon sims, It's a Box. You sit on it, and Tell it what hight you want to work at. It Zooms up to that hight, with you sitting on it, then Rezzes a Platform 30X30 meters square (Which can be expanded to 60X60, or 90X90) with a Guard rail around it. If you are privacy minded while you Build, you can enclose it, and you can Change it's texture from Steel to Wood, to measured building Grid.

It's an Invaluable tool.

Haha I do what Betty does... almost exactly. After you do it about 30 times you get quite fast at it. I also put a platform inside my flight feather and a script that rezzes it on demand. Quite useful when I am already floating in the sky.

I've been doing more or less the same. I rez a 20x20 I have in my inventory, raise it to the desired level by editing the elevation value, and then just fly straight up to where it is.

To begin with, you need a free flight feather. I believe I got mine at Yadni's Junk Yard. That will allow you to fly higher than the usual 180 height restraint.

Then I just do as others have said, rez the box on the ground, send it to the desired height and then fly up to it.

I also use a nano prim, available in a box of others at slex for free. One of the 20 x 20 or 40 x40 ones usually does nicely and gives a lot more space for building, walking around. Just a thought.

Also of interest, if you want to build your own platform with a grid, the same grid texture that is in mystitool and other building platforms is available for free at Yadni's in the Wayfarer's Build Tools (I think its Wayfarer ... Waysomething), which is in the 'freebies of the month' section.

@delilah: You mean you use a mega, not nano, prim .... I believe the box is called "Huge prims" at SLEX. Oh and btw, if you HAVE a box of nano prims, I'm interested!

The box that I have says huge/nano. I've not paid close attention since i was mainly interested in big ones.

I believe the box is copiable so I'd be happy to pass you a copy for you to review and see either way.
