Lately I have been seeing a lot of people start to wear an Anti Inspect object. Which is made up of many objects that cover your avatar.. (up to 200 prims). It is used to prevent people to right click on your objects and inspect them.
I was told by another person that the anti inspect object constantly rezzes objects. up to 40 at a time and they constantly die. Is this true on how it works? Does anyone have any info on this tool and how it works?

And why would anyone wear something like that? Are they so vain to think their multi platinum Copy of a dress is so unique they don't want anyone else to find it or wear it? lol
Or is it worn to hide all the rest of the evil gadgets attached to their avatar?

Anyway. Any info would be appreciated on if it constantly rezzez temp objects or not
Thanks all

Who is the creator of this lag-generator?

SO this is what somebody was wearing in my sim the other day that I kicked and banned. if they was smart they would realize that I can turn objects off and still inspect them. it's build into the advanced menu.

I think there are a few creators. I have seen 2 types/shaped ones. I dropped a note to one creator but he has not answered.
Unabomber Bellic Is the creator of one type. And I forget the other creators name

All Search turns up a few results..

Yuck.

Of course, any rezzing (temp or not) would only work on land that permits object creation (and that has prims to spare).

It would be interesting to see what happens when the avatar moves around. If it's rezzing prims, they'd either get left behind or follow not-quite-in-sync with the avatar's movements. There's no way to rez something and dynamically link it to an attachment; scarily enough, though, the attachment could come with gobs of tiny hidden prims that rescale and migrate around each other under script control, which would be almost as laggy as temp-rezzing them over and over.

If it's really rezzing stuff, getting rid of crap like this is the shiny silver lining to script memory limits.

Why would anyone want to do that? It seems a pointless exercise.

They do it because they failed to save against some chaotic-evil scripter's charisma roll.

Just like the "copybot protectors".

The anti-inspect shield has been featured a few times in the "what the fug"-blog. From what I have seen it is most commonly worn by people wearing stuff not many would care to own anyway...

Darion - that's exactly what I was thinking of. (WTF Blog...hehehe. Flickr, too.)

These anti inspect thingys make no sense to me. Who really cares? If someone would like to know where I got a prim of one kind or other I give them the landmark.

Some people seem to only roll natural threes. In RL, too, what else can explain the fact that people actually bought things like this?

You got it! They are used by creators who are ashamed of their product.

:D

No creator with half a brain would normaly want to hide their name from their creations.

Spot on. So not only are these anti-inspect divine dahlings declaring to the world that their fabulousness must NEVER be copied, they're making sure it won't be by stopping others from finding out who made that fabulous outfit so they can go and buy something by the same (possibly up-and-coming, small-time and struggling-to-get-started) designer, thereby helping to keep said designer in business.

It's a simple solution. If the designer is out of business, NOBODY will be able to copy that oh-so-fabulous look!

If it weren't so stupid it would be utter genius

They're used a lot by people who want to hide the fact that they are wearing copybotted attachments. But it doesn't take a lot of skill to cam in and see who the creator is anyway.

Ohh!

So they might not be trying to stop inspection for reasons of "my outfit's so fantabulous no one else shall have it" or "do not copybot" but - they might BE the copybotter?

Seeing some of the avs that wear those things, I could believe that. LOL

That anti-inspect shield stuff its stupid. Some of these shields are over a hundred prims.

One person had one that was so obnoxious, that i set myself to camming through it - which was extremely simple - I then told the person the name of the item and maker of all the stupid things she was wearing.

Yes. I was really pissed off because that frankenbarbie was standing near me and i could not figure out what the hell kept catching my camera and i assumed it was the lights, but i still had problems after adjusting for the lights so i turned on transparency and lo-and-behold this person had some huge radius "anti-inspection shield" on that was most likely screwing the cam for everyone else around her like it was for me. So yes, i had to let her know how useless her shield was, and how it was nothing but an interference to those around her and that it did not stop inspections - i let her know this by listing her items to her :D. Afterward she of course gave me the usual ghetto barbie reply of "f-u dumb bitch", "stop inspectin' my shit tramp" etc etc... The sim had Push off, so i found myself mousing over the "orbit" button a couple times with an evil grin - it was a nice thought. :p

Hmmm. There's an advanced menu tool that completely circumvents those things so why bother?

It would be funny if you were to buy the exact same version of their clothes and then stand next to them and make it look like you're twins.

What's the ostensible purpose of these devices? Point taken about not wanting people to spot you're wearing knock-offs, but that can't be how they're sold, can it? "Wearing something you're created, don't sell, and want to keep unique"? That's a pretty limited market, I'd have thought.

If neither of those two are the case, what would I need one for -- or, rather, what does the maker say I would need one for -- if they actually worked?

Having looked a few of them up on Xstreet, it appears to come down to the following quotes from the ads:

From: someone
Tired of looking all over for cool stores, only to have some lame steal your look with a few mouse clicks? ... is designed to make it extremely hard if not impossible for people to click on your hair, sculpty pants, sculpty sleeves, glasses, or other attachments and find how who made them ... When people right click you, they will still get the regular pie menu, but they won't be able to see who created anything you're wearing! ... is the *only* way in SL to keep your look yours, and to keep you being you, without people ripping you off.
From: someone
your outfitts are in safe
From: someone

You are proud about some great clothes
and it took ages for you to find a shop you really like?
You are tired of letting everyone know what clothes you are wearing
without a small talk and a nice hello?

so don`t let people know! Let them ask you where you get what!
And finally:

From: someone
All it does is stop people from being able to inspect ur items and then run out and get it. For those of us who take pride in putting together a unique outfit and don't want everyone wearing it the next day.
- to which the sole reviewing comment at present is this:

From: someone
OK...this thing is flipping awesome.....and it works! Now them lazy girls are FORCED to ASK ME where I got my clothing. LOVING IT.
So, basically? It's all about reinforcing your ego ;)
