When you leave SL, out with a bang, or silent into the shadows?

If I _properly_ left, you would all know about it.

No. You really would. Believe me. At least, after some predetermined time.

You'd probably never know I'm gone. See, once I stop caring about something, I STOP CARING. I won't care if anyone notices I'm gone (which I'm not..), because then the joy will be all out of the world and I'd be far better off without it.

That's what I would want.

For me it will be a gradual lessening of time until one day I just stop logging on.

Likely it'll be something RL that stops me from getting into SL, so I'll end up just vanishing.

I would do that for ya even if you were just going afk for a minute...

I cant see me leaving SL for a very long time yet, still so much to learn and do ..... but I can understand why people who DO decide to leave would make a big announcement about it .... (apart from those with an over inflated sense of the dramatic of course, which I'll never understand)

Most of the time Im reading about people who announce theyre leaving because of a situation created by LL. This is always painful to read, people who have invested a lot of time and money into SL ......(and lets face it its money/cash/hard $s that maintain the world we all log into)...... only to find that some poorly thought out action by LL has cut the legs from under them.

I see these sort of 'Im leaving' notices as the only avenue some people have to voice their dissapoinment/distress to LL and anyone else who might be interested. Unfortunately, the 'Im alright jack/gimme your things/dont let the door hit you on the way out' responses I read say much more about the people who make them than the person leaving.

I hope to go swiftly, peacefully and unnoticed.

I almost went quietly and unnoticed one day. Believe me what went through my mind while the parametics were carrying me out the door was, I would love to come back in and say a short goodbye to everyone that I had met and love in SL.

I would love to hold and kiss everyone goodbye, before I left. Tell them how much that I love them and how much they have added to my life.

I have left SL twice before. Third time's the charm as they say... I've come to the realisation that SL doesn't matter.

Unnoticed in life, unnoticed in death, do not see why the dying part (leaving SL) would be any different.

I have no plans to leave SL. I'm enjoying it FAAARRRR too much! But I know from long experience in cyberspace that it's likely that one day some new thing may arise that will grab my attention and refuse to let go (in much the way that SL did when I first encountered it). It's happened before... when I shifted from IRC to Usenet and IM; when I drifted away from Usenet toward blogging; and most recently, when I took up SL and and have gotten less invested in blogging and IM. It's not that I actually completely stop doing any of those things; it's more that they become secondary in importance to whatever it is that has newly captivated me, and so I become a lot less invested in them and spend less time attending to them.

Based on that experience, I probably won't completely drop SL when the day comes... I'll likely just wind up spending less time in-world and investing less and less of myself in it. And I'll probably wind up keeping an outdated version of the client on my computer "just in case" for some long while after I've basically drifted away, because I might get the urge to wander back and see how things have changed in my absence.

That's just a prediction, you understand, based on how things have gone for me in other online media. But on the other hand, I didn't have a thriving and profitable business in any of those other media, which could make a big difference to how things go for me in SL in the long run. So long as my business is doing well and continuing to be fun, I can't really imagine myself losing interest in running it. It really is the core of my SL Experience, and everything else seems to revolve around it, for me. So I guess that if someday it fizzles that could have a profound effect on my interest in staying in SL. But I rather hope it doesn't. :-7

If I where to permanently leave SL I think I would let those who matter most to me know I'm leaving. I would also get my TE line settled so they aren't left without a leige and then that would be it. But it would take alot to get me to leave SL. It's a big world out there. . . click, delete and move on

I Lleave all the got d@m time (mostly it's kickin and screamin dragged off by some dirt faced linden for misdemeanors and such ) but now i had to slip away (WORK SUX!) and i know ya been bored dealin withthem i know ya miss my lovin my huggin thug lovin! GOT D@M IT i'm comin back and when i do seas will part thunder will crack and a lotta motha f@ckers gonna have 23 and a swoosh stomped dead in on thier for heads CAUSE I GOT THE OLD SCHOOLS ON!
