I am new to SL but I have run into an issue that has irritated me somewhat as well. I bought a lot and a furnished home. Now I see many furnished homes for sale so I assumed (being new) that it was standard practice. I mean, in RL furnished homes are for sale as well.

After I acquire the property my wife starts checking permissions and we find out that the home is non-transferable. I do some investigating and I contact the creator and she tells me that technically I do not own the home. The home can be copied and used multiple times "in world" but cannot be sold. So, I can buy the home for the same price, put up 1000 units and rent them all BUT I cannot sell the home to another person. To me, I would rather see the house be no-copy and transferable (because I am not a landlord).

So, my choice after buying this home is to by another "house" so I can be the owner BUT I can never sell that house, if I wanted to move, to another person. Perhaps other builders have different policies but I bought this place because I liked the house the way it was - just like I may do in RL.

Well personally I think no trans/copy is the best perms setup for prefabs. Most who would want to modify the house would want to be able to drag-copy existing prims, and so copy is a requirement. Also, if a resident makes a hash of any modifications, or simply makes a mess of the placement of the building in the first place, they can simply delete it all and start again when copy is enabled. And if you have copy perms, you can't have trans perms as well.

I really don't understand why you were told you do not own the home, that's very odd. One thing you do have to understand though Storm, is you can't make direct comparisons to rl. If you buy a car irl, you can sell it on at a later date, but you will of course only have one copy - it's not like you would be able to set up a car dealership selling limitless numbers of that model. In SL, if both copy and trans permissions are given, you would then be able to sell multiple copies of the item yourself. So the only way to mimic the situation irl is to offer trans/no copy, but I really think that is more restrictive for the buyer than copy/no trans.

edit to add: I see you favour trans/no copy. People will always have different preferences for which perms setup is best for them, and perhaps it would be wise for the seller to offer both choices. Personally, I really do believe that no trans/copy is best for prefabs tho.

Copiable items if household or land items is fine being made copiable. But for clothes, you don't need them to be copiable. Who needs more then one of the same exact clothes? Even if they're modifiable once you change the color of clothes whatever design is on their is now covered by whatever different color you've added to it. So changing the color isn't really an option unless its a solid color to begin with.

I like my clothes to be copy. Female clothes tend to have prims which need to be altered to our size, if you make a mess of it then need another to start again. Being able to alter my clothes for myself I find more important than being able to sell them on or give away.
