Hi there SL Residents! I am doing a little quick survey study for a blog I am working on.

I would greatly appreciate any SL resident interested in participating to go to this site and take this quick survey:

http://www.esurveyspro.com/Survey.aspx?id=c1ae2aea-a800-4334-a57a-fde46d8666e4

As soon as I collect enough responses I will post results on my blog:

http://slamadrama.wordpress.com/

It is free and completely anonymous! I thank you in advance for your consideration and participation!

Thanks - Rae

Now, now -- this is for a blog, not a "university study." I don't know why that makes it more tolerable , but it does. Just as we are quick to answer a poll here, but groan whenever the word survey is mentioned.

It is clear from the blog post that Rae is well familar with the grid and its culture.

It remains to be seen if I can make it through the survey however. I haven't tried yet.

Why do SL forum users hate surveys so much? I've never seen this in other online communities and I don't get it.

To the OP

Sorry, it's nothing personal, but we get these requests practically every day to the point some have become sick of them. Hostile even.

You should hang out in SL for awhile and start up conversation or interviews. I don't think you're going to have much useful information here.

Thank you for the popcorn James!

You guys make me laugh! Thanks for your candid and quite cheerful responses to this little quest of mine.

I appreciate those who are happy to volunteer the min or two it might take to answer a few little silly questions.

Besides - what fun - a thread here for some of you to tease and joke at! Nothing personal taken here!

Besides - it just adds to the ideas for a new blog!

Cheers!

"Similarly, some of the first educators and researchers in SL were a bit clumsy in their approach. There were early incidents in which Residents felt—rightly—that they were being spied upon or treated like guinea pigs rather than human beings. Imagine how you would feel if an entire class of students set up right next to your vacation hideaway, left trash lying around, logged your conversations, and posted them on the Internet with criticism and mean-spirited comments. This is exactly what happened to some early Residents. Things have improved greatly in the years since then, but sometimes SL Residents are still subject to that kind of inconsiderate behavior. For example, a constant stream of researchers (often students) posts on the Second Life official forums requesting that Residents please take their surveys. Most of these surveys include the same questions that have been asked over and over. Often they aren't spell-checked, or refer to SL as a game—a sure way to irritate a substantial number of Residents. Some Residents make a hobby of critiquing these surveys, pointing out how the questions and their wording make it clear that the researcher isn't familiar with Second Life. Some post outright that they are sick of badly planned surveys and suggest that the researchers log in and do their own research."

Re: survey. ;tldr.

Seriously, there's no way I'm going to sit there and count all the people on my list and then try to remember who is male and who is female. How about if I just say here and now that I have both genders on the list, and leave it at that?

Oh, and I'm sure there are furries on the list too.

because we get so many idiotic ones. it has become that one stupid question, joke or reaction that you always get when someone finds out you have a specific label, that you've heard from EVERY other person when they find out the exact same thing.

EG
COP:
nervous look and change of topic (you look guilty, dumbass)

In a queer relationship:
so who's the guy, and who's the girl? (answer: neither, dumbass)

rich:
can I borrow some money? (answer: ask my bank, dumbass)

play second life:
will you take a survey? (answer: you should have figured this out by now.... dumbass)

I so understand how you all feel about the survey concerns. It my first go at it - forgive a newbie blogger and newbie survey doer/pollster for learning! Always a noob at some point or other with something.

I do want to thank the several peops who have taken the survey thus far. All good responses...great feedback...and all good stuff for the part 2 of the blog!

I do understand its not a "clinical trial scientifc survey poll"! just posing a question and a trigger for a good blog convo!

Your comments here are great! Appreciate it!

I think if you'd actually researched, even just this on forum, you'd have seen from all the other survey strings, most people don't want it.

That should be enough info for you re this forum, eh?
