My SL is blocked by the router, thanks to a soon to be ex. Wanted to know how do I unblock a webpage without resetting the whole router box, since I would like to be able to get inworld and then block it again so there won't be any clear signs that I unblocked it.
I have been thru the normal places via control panel etc. but there is nothing... the only hint I have is the words 'keyword filter'.
I have fiberoptic connection with Verizon.

What model router? You can generally access the settings by entering the IP address of your router into your browser. How you go about that will depend on what router you're using.

The filter would be the place to check. Under there you'd have to look for references to SL, or, ports SL uses.
Unfortunately, without specific information about your router and configuration, you're not going to get much more than generalities here.

Now I noticed that this message came here three times!!! Incredible...it didnt show me at all that it even submitted...
Oh, with IP, I have a page on desktop to find the IP number...I'll take a look and see what I can find with it.
I have to go find more info about the router then, I'll let you know as soon as I know.

OK, the router is Actiontec 4 Port Wireless, but the system is hardwired with CAT 5.
Filter? Where do I find the filter? I will go and do some clicking...

Hmm, page 40 has a blurb on Web Site Blocking. From: someone Selecting Website Blocking in the Advanced Configuration screen generates the "Website Blocking" screen. This feature enables the Router to block Web sites to all computers on the network. Tp block a Web site, enter the address of the Web site in the "Website" text box and click Add. The blocked Web site address is displayed in the "Blocked Website List" text box, and will not be available to computers on the network. To remove a blocked Web site, click on it in the "Blocked Website List," then click Remove. Be sure to write dowm the addresses you remove so you can put them back. If the address look like "123.021.087.228" or something, all you have to do is change the numbers. Take the second triple (.021 in my example) and change it to sone number less than 255. If it looks similar, even beter. something like 201 to keep with the example. That way it stays un-blocked but looks like it is still in the list.

If my spouse attempted to block anything that I do on the computer, he would come home and find himself locked out of the house, the locks changed, and all of his stuff on the lawn. Since I am an adult and not a child, he would have no right to attempt to control me in that way.

I suggest you buy a new router, set it up, change the password, take the old router, and nail it to a tree in the front yard.

I think this is the router Verizon distributes with FiOS service, so it's probably not that possible to replace it (it wires directly to the Optical Network Terminal, and supports WAN-side access for ISP configuration--by SNMP PUTs, if I recall correctly). It may well be that Verizon disables some of the native Actiontec admin pages, at least from LAN side.
(I really miss FiOS.)
Not that this helps.

well, crap. I don't know how that area has been disabled. Just for giggles ... have you checked the Windows Firewall (or whatever you may use) and see if it is turned off there? And finally .. http://www.bbwexchange.com/wisps/You could find a wireless ISP service. Ask them about a USB wifi antenna that you could plug up or unplug and slip into your pocket as needed.

From: Gita Burger one little problem...I cant follow the instructions, the webpage to get into the settings doesnt open... usually there's a password to log into the router. If he has gone thru the trouble of blocking the port for SL, or setting up filtering, then he has prolly changed the password. You would need to go thru physically resetting the router. Which he'll know about. If it's a port block and not a url block then you can change the port number that SL uses in edit-preferences-network tab. I give it about 10% chance of success, but it's painless to test. Tho if you can reach the forums... @Yoseph: wifi is usually to slow for SL.

I was very surprised to notice that I was able to get into this forum, last time I was not able to get in here either. So maybe the blocking is with the actual SL address/number, and not with this? Or those ports or...
Just my luck, when I was planning to do some deeper trouble shooting, we lost electricity...lol
Now that the electricity is back, so is he...so much for me doing anything until Monday. Sucks. At least I can come here...
Yes, the password is changed. So resetting the router is the only way at this point...and that will screw up a lot of settings, not only blocked webpage. But if he plays this game, maybe I should too? I just despise taking the low road...
Yes, Yosef, I have checked firewalls, internet options, everything I can think of. No luck. It is blocked with the router for sure, using some kind of keyword filter.
Thank you all! Hugs!

you can always try plugging the modem directly into your computer. I did that when my router died a couple of weeks ago.

Seconded, Mari.
Gita sounds like she is tiptoeing around, afraid to make a move or even speak to her soon-to-be ex.
Sweetie...if that's what's happening, and you're scared, get off the forums here and get in your car. Take your cell phone. Call a friend, get yourself over there, and then decide what to do. Call a shelter, call the cops, whatever.
Stay safe.
*Hugs*
(This would've been a PM, but you have that option turned off in your forum preferences.)

It made it fine -- Private Messages (PMs) can be enabled under the "User CP" link near the top of the page. I'm glad there is no physical threat, but the level of controlling and manipulation it seems you are going through it not what any worthy person should be going through. And we're all worthy people.

yeah, you're still transmitting.
PM is Private Messages. Enable that by hitting User CP at the top left of the forum page. Then click Edit Options, and in Messaging look for and check "enable private messages"
[Edit: Darn your nimble young fingers, Mari!]
