Hi. I was exploring an island recently and ran into someone. I'm a newbie, and I've been exploring for a week now, but I finally got up the nerve to say hello. There was no response. I didn't quite know what to do. I waited around for a while and then walked away. The next thing I knew, I was being ejected. I really enjoyed this place, and I'd like to know what I might have done to get ejected. As far as I know, it was a public place; it was advertised in the events section. Anyway, I don't want to be doing something offensive without knowing it. Is it wrong to just walk up to someone and say hello? Apparently the person who ejected me was the owner.
I'd appreciate any feedback.

I'd appreciate any feedback. Sounds like the guy was a jerk. Sorry to have had that happen to you early on. :/ Most folks in here are friendly, so let me say 'welcome'.

Owners can eject/ban you for any or no reason at all. A very popular hair shop owner once ejected me from a parcel they had just moved from in Dreamland to go to their own private island. At the time I was looking for a new plot.. saw this one with the rental box showing rent due and investigated. I was on the prop and talking to a DreamLand Angel (The reps of the islands) about it and the owner just ejected me. No reason, I wasn't talking to her and I was far away from what she was doing. Made no sense and when I IM'd to ask what I had done she just responded with a "It is my land and I can do it if I want" answer. Sucked, but it just told me I will never buy hair from that place (we will Calla the place.... oh... HairShopC) again, nor recommend it. So, unless you showed up naked on PG land I can't offer you a "how to avoid this in the future" answer. Just mark and avoid the sim and don't support it or recommend it. SL is a huge place and chances are you will find just as good a place to explore without the hassles. Welcome to SL and the forums.

Yep. . . just move on. 100 sims from now you will have forgotten all about that place. Happy exploring!

Come visit the Forum Cartel Hangout. There is usually someone there to say hello to. A word of warning, most of us are slightly insane.

I know she must get a lot of questions but damn, it just seemed way too aggressive. The only things I ask for are no one-liners like "hi" or friend offers out of the blue.

The only things I ask for are no one-liners like "hi" or friend offers out of the blue. You know, Cristalle.. I have refused to shop at places when the owner has a profile that is like that. I totally understand when they say "My IMs get capped so please send a notecard instead of IMing me" but when they come off with an attitude of "I am way too important for you to IM me.. leave me alone" I figure they don't want my money either. When shopping I always pull up the owner's profile before I buy anything, just to get a feel for who I am supporting. Those kind of profiles are an automatic pass for me right away.

Anyone that would bounce you out has to be riddled with a**holery. Oh, it wasn't anything personal, nor was it about me bein a kid inworld or none of that. I used to be on a slower computer, and would click on prims to get their textures to load. I was tryin' to take piccies of Svarga, an musta looked like a texture theif or someting, flying above the place and clicking all the prims or something. I've ben back since a couple times. No biggie. Mari

But the person should have known the average texture thief (if that is what they assumed) doesn't generally click prims.

I'd appreciate any feedback. Sometimes, people do get a little trigger happy with the ban/eject function, if they've just had a run in with a particularly nasty soul...the ability to create a new account to circumvent ban/ejects is so simple, that for some, the "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality is the simpler route to take. If you really would like to return to that sim, send an IM to the owner, asking if there was anything you done to offend them or violate their rules...probably adding an apology if you inadvertently did break rules is a nice step as well. Hopefully, they'll respond in a civil fashion, and likely remove the ban. If so, the sun comes out, the birds sing, and you may re-enter the sim for enjoyment. If they don't? Screw 'em. As others have said, there's plenty of other places to go, and things to do. Don't let jerks take up more of your precious mental resources than need be. ...and yes! The Cartel Hangout is a good place to kick back and take your brain off the hook for a bit...and if no one is there when you first arrive, just poke around for a bit - very likely someone will show soon...even more likely they'll catch you doing something embarrassing you've just become involved in...in which case, welcome to the fold.

I wonder if her AV isnt human, I've run into that sort of reaction a few times now while "dressed up" ... One time I was ejected and banned from a dance club before it even ressed in or I said a word .. when I IMed the manager why he made some extremely rude comments about Vampires and Role players.
Ive also had similar problems with my Neko .. and while she hasnt been banned I have been asked to leave or left on my own becuase of open chat comments like "what that I smell... wet cat?" or "Whats that Cat thing on the dance floor? im afraid to get near it!" ... and im not a anamorphic Neko even ... just a hybred!.

From: Dante Tucker Protip: inventory offers get capped too. Yep, but I believe there are more allowed. I have never had an issue getting a message through by offering a Notecard. I generally will IM the person at the same time with the name of the notecard so they know it is in invo and hope the IM gets through. If I just IM though I have often been told they didn't get the IM due to it being capped. Of course maybe people don't think to Notecard someone as much as they IM them.

Well, thanks for your responses. I was thinking about it, and I have another question: Is it possible that he got angry with me because I used a boat or a hang glider and didn't put it back where I got it? Since I'm a newbie, I'm still learning to navigate and I wasn't able to do that.
Anyway, it's good to hear some friendly voices. I'll try the cartel.
Best, A

Best, A Anything that you can touch and use is almost certainly there for public use. De-rezzing it (if it's something you rez from a vendor, say) or putting it back certainly would be good manners, though. Taking your own stuff out of your inventory and using it and then leaving it lying around is also rather poor manners. However, most people understand that problems happen and that newbies aren't yet proficient in some things...so a nice note of inquiry/apology would be a good idea.

Just thought I'd mention, the shop you're oh so subtly referring to here was actually run by two people and the one I perceive as having an 'aggressive' profile recently left to start her own shop. The other seems perfectly nice and helpful from the little I know about her.

The other seems perfectly nice and helpful from the little I know about her. Well, if it helps the one that was rude was T.K. If she left to do her own thing.. great. Then I would be happy to buy again there as I love the hair. And I apologize to the one you kind of know. But if this is who still runs the place they were rude and frankly a snot head and I will continue to point it out when the opportunity arises. Just like if the owner of my local video store was an ass, I would mention it. I bought quite a few hairs there as Mac and alts. I was even neighbor to the place in Dreamland.. just a tad offset across the street. So, I was a little pissed. I was not mad at being bounced.. it was the snotty "my land so I will do what I want" response that sealed the deal.
