Hello I'm Hadyn.
I just signed up for this game and my head
is buzzing with questions. I'm afraid to download
the second life game bc i'm afraid it will put a
virus on my computer..
Has anyone else had a problem with viruses?
Do u think its safe?
How do I know for sure that it won't harm my computer?
Please answer this asap :)

You won't get a virus from SL. Maybe a lot of headaches, but that's about it. It is safe to install. However you do need a fairly powerful computer to run it .

Haydn- there are millions of us here- the only virus SL will give you is the bug that will make it impossible to ever turn away again. SL is either the gateway to Heaven or to Hell - sometimes both.

Welcome...

I have never detected a Virus involving Second Life that has affected my computer, however one seems to worm in affecting me, making it very hard to stay away.

I also seem to be affected by one making me want to spend way too many Lindens.

haha sounds fun.
Thanks for replying.
The computer I'm using isnt very good at all.
Does SL take up alot of space?
I kinda just want to try it out.
I started downloading it
and I got scared bc the folder
the little paper was going into was
had a red star thingy by it making it look dangerous.
So i thought my computer was trying to warn me. :)
So.. can u tell me a little about this game?

Like Brenda said.

As free software for use on a free service, the Second Life client is surprisingly free of pests. (Which can not be said of the SL grid however.)

I guess they depend on the addiction factor to make money.

HAHAHA!
SLTDs

Welcom to SL, Hadyn. As with any program you download, save it to the harddrive first and run it from there. This let's your anti-virus software catch any malicious programs. If you truly are paranoid about viruses you can scan the file before opening it.

FWIW, I have used the release candidate, the normal view and the On Res viewer with no problems ever with viruses or trojans. The only bugs are in in the code ... and there are plenty of those to go around.

It isn't space so much as it is resource intensive. System requirements here:

Lindens are either the employees of Linden Lab, which owns SL, or the in-world monetary unit.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I had crabs once... they overran my garden and it was to catch them all..

Welcome Hadyn :) Make sure you download the official SL client software from Linden Lab or a version from recognised developers like Nicholaz Berresford or On-Rez. I'd be astonished if you had any trouble with viruses from those sources.

Go for it and enjoy your Second Life.

Lindens are the Money of Second life, you can play without having them but being rich is soo much better than being poor.

Note: If anyone feels thay have too many Lindens, you can send them to me if it makes you feel better :D

Lol. What does a virus from a computer have to do with crabs?

There is all sorts of content within the game- I was making a joke about virus and crabs... since it is an actual condition one could catch in RL- as for the SL crabs that over ran the garden it was a joke perpetrated on me - someone set out a thing called an emitter that let lose clouds of virtual crabs all over the garden. I was very new and had a hell of a time finding the thing in order to delete it.

SL is completely free- unless you choose to pay. You may want Lindens eventually but generally, you can play for free forever.

It is easiest to buy the Lindens. They cost approximately 1$ USD for 265 Lindens.

Now some Lindens might cost more... Robin and Phil prolly cost a lot more. :D

Hadyn, it's going to start you off on Orientation Island to get an idea about some of the controls and such. Please note, OI can be confusing and sometimes the content doesn't work as it should, but try to finish as much of it as you can unless you find someone willing to do one-on-one work with you.

My dear- there is a bit of a learning curve but you have made a great start in that you found the forum. The first thing you will find when you go in-world is Orientation Island. There you will hopefully get the basics such as moving around and how to interact with the world around you.

Once you find your way off the island you will arrive at a Newbie place with many freebies to get you started. Maybe if someone is in world now then can help you once you are off the island. Residents cannot go back to the island. There is a great and friendly bunch here and I am sure we will all be happy to lend a hand.

Once you are settled, look me up in world- happy to show you around a bit.

sorry Hadyn, you don't get any free money. if you want money, you can buy it, or you can camp or find little jobs to earn it. nothing in life is free, hon. best to learn that at an early age.

Not exactly easily, but your first 30 days there are Money Trees you can harvest-they're usually good for 1-5Linden if you get there at the right times (a lot of people visit them, so they're often empty).

The good news is that money isn't essential to enjoyment of SL.

On an unrelated note, and it's none of my business, but I have to ask; are you over 18?
The nature and phrasing of your posts give me the feeling that you may not be.
Again, none of my business, but I'm nosy.
