From: Laurence Corleone Seems like a lot of hassle over something that was going to be destroyed anyways. Actually I think you make a very relevant point here Laurence and in your follow up response. Having gone to the trouble of a Roll Back it did get me thinking maybe destroying the build was a mistake, particularly in a way that drew public/LL attention (like crashing the sim in a shower of prims while dozens of green dots look on). Which is why ever since yesterday's events I've been reviewing the whole demolition idea. Bottom line is though, this build is extremely prim expensive and was always built purely as an experiment and hence always destined to be deleted eventually. Oddly though it has proven rather popular with visitors and my main reason for trying to undo yesterday's accidental deletion was for that reason. Had the building not been an attraction rather just something I'd built I'd probably just have shrugged my shoulders, muttered "bugger" and deleted the rest of it, then on to the next project. Ultimately though the tower will go..I'm just considering how at the moment. Perre..

I climbed it. No handrails on the platforms ... aarrgghh! To try to stop feeling dizzy, I thought about the prim count. Do you hate sculpties too much? They could save 4500 prims on the stairs alone. Then the platforms...just more than 200 each. Could cut that down a lot too. I can see you are a very meticulous builder and might not like to skimp, but ....

Thanks for sending me the sculpties Drongle..nice stairs they look great. I tried the same texture as used in the Tower and put a central column and outer wall in and the result was pretty much identical (see pic below) The down-side to sculpties is as you say in the card, they have to be phantom and supported with a ramp. However when the savings are 4000+ prims in a build this size..it's got to be worth considering. I may well use this in my next 'little' project Thanks again..Perre..

Ferdinand DeLesseps would be proud of you.

Funnily enough I was speaking to Ferdinand just the other day (he’s here in Second Life..honest he is) “Perre my boy” he said “nice suite, so much smarter than the jeans and T shirt” Then he sort of rambled on about canals, engineering design and stuff like that. “Fifteen hundred and one meters is all good and well” he said “but let’s face it, it just doesn’t cut the mustard does it. Find a way to touch the roof of the World (which apparently is at 4096 m – at the moment)..find a way Perre..find a way..” Of course I may just have imagined our meeting I have after all been spending rather a lot of time at higher altitudes and all that thin air might be finally taking its toll. Oddly however I did find this picture of our meeting..how mysterious!! So could this be the way to reach ‘the roof of the World’..sculptie stairs..only time will tell. Oh by the way, on a more serious note, visitors are well advised to wear hard hats while visiting Laurentia. I’m currently carrying out demolition trials, trying to calculate what % of prims will spill into the void and how many it will take to crash the sim. So when visiting keep one eye on the skies above and look out for falling masonry. Perre..

Glad you found them worth looking at, and nice to see them in-situ. Good luck with the 4000m tower! Maybe it should be a space elevator (after Arthur C Clarke), with an orbital station at the top. Of course you would have to provide space suits for climbers once they get to the top of the atmosphere, and a re-entry vehicle for jumping off. Paper aeroplanes will just not stand the heat, I'm afraid.

I climbed it, it was fun. The little observation decks were trippy....I know it's just SL but I still felt kind of queasy on the thin walkways. Very nice build Perre

i met a newbie last night who thought sl was boring but i dont think if had left OI. So i took him to meet some of my friends and after having him dance in the pink thong, said "how about we go visit Laurentia tower?" We didnt have time to walk so took my helicopter instead but Wow what a build! We failed at the tightrope walking but made up for it by naked sky diving Then we went dancing bottomless wearing the t shirts. Newbie has new perspective on fun. Great build, hope to be back before it gets pulled down.

Nice pics Smoke..I'll see if I can russle up some barriers for the balconies (I do remember when I was building the tower stepping out onto the first balcony I'd built and thinking..Yikes!!..but never quite got round to it) Sassy..always heed the words of Torley Linden "I highly recommend you take snapshots of the awesomeness of your Second Life" (actually he didn't say it exactly like that but it sounds about right)..especially if your skydiving naked!!But then you have to remember to share them with the rest of the forum Perre..

Naked skydiving? Talk about falling free... But...doesn't a parachute count as "attire"? So you weren't ALL naked, were you now, Missy? Or did you leave the chutes at the top and just trust to SL physics to save your bare asses? Which brings to mind a fun game. Launch high, sans parachute. On the way down, open inventory, rummage about, find chute, wear chute, find directions, read directions... If you manage to open your chute before you bounce -- YOU WIN! After you get good at this, work on starting the jump wearing, say, a Victorian dress with prim lace cuffs and petticoats...and ending up at the bottom wearing a jumpsuit and helmet, all properly attired and skydiverly.

From: Sassy Romano Well here goes... Wow!! This will be my last post regarding 'the Tower'..apparently there are some who feel it is a little over-publicized in Resident Answers (which to be honest I would have to say is a fair comment). So I'll end by saying 'thank you all for your kind words and feel free to visit whenever you like' Perre..

Not mine... Having visited it, I think it's a wonderful feature. Very well done, creative and just great fun. I've been sending everyone I know to it in world because it's just so different than anything i've done before. The fact that you can't possibly even get a picture of the thing in its entirety is awesome. Nothing wrong with the publicity, it's not even as if entry is being charged. For which I might add I *would* have paid. There is no General forum so this is it. Next time, just phrase it with a question then it becomes a thread for answers.

About a week ago I climbed to the top of Laurentia.... got myself the t-shirt and took a photo.... I can't say why, but it was fun in an inexplicable way. Then a few days later, I climbed spiral stairs to the top of a tall lighthouse in RL. At the top, there were buttons available that said "I made it to the top of the Lighthouse." I proudly pinned it to my sweater, and shook my head at the odd parallels between SL and RL...
I'm not sure which one I'm more proud of... the virtual t-shirt, or the RL button.... Laurentia took longer, that's for sure.

Yeah Sassy - I mean it's all in good fun, but forums are PG land, and you're likely to get yourself into a bit of trouble with that pic. From: Colette Meiji Oh wow, hey might want to cover up some bits of those pictures with some yellow smileys or something

From: Sassy Romano ...As for changing clothes, that's too easy, just have a folder set ready to wear the contents of Cheater cheater cheater! The right way to play this game is to start with inventory and all folders closed, and no ready made Outfits allowed.

Technically, the pics are NOT in the forums, they are external and no different to some of the pics in the trout rating thread. In fact, nudity is not sexual, that's only in the minds of those that choose to sexualise it.
There was however a 3 way sexual act going on in the trout thread so I rest my case!
