From: Bradley Bracken Very easy. I use to work for a major hotel chain. Because of franchising issues there had to be a fair way for the order of hotels to come up on the screen when a person would call to worldwide reservations to inquire about any city that had multiple hotels. The solution was easy. Each day the hotel at the top of the list would move to the bottom and the others would all move up one notch.
With the search results being much longer in SL I think it would be best to have the results rotate hourly or at least more frequent, but simple coding could make it work.
That way LL is completely out of it and cannot be accused of playing favorites and no one would have any reason to manipulate their traffic numbers. nice idea. but it would stress out the asshat server.

Don't sort them... if someone searches for a keyword, just dump them willy nilly to the screen with no rhyme nor reason...
..crashes occur like that, so why not search?

From: Avion Raymaker Jessy, Bradley, and others, I agree with you for the most part, but please read my post on page 1 that suggests that there are decent, legitimate ways to use the traffic number that doesn't involve trying to cheat the search index. So I think you're wrong when you say it has no place. If LL wants to take it out of the search index, I have no problem whatsoever. But don't take it out of the land parcel itself, please! -Avion True. For a land owner (who is not gaming the system), Traffic does serve a purpose. Even here, however, it is EXTREMELY limited because of LL's boneheaded way of calculating it. If you want to know how many people visit your land, go get a Visitor Counter. Available at many fine scripting buisnesses within SL. I recommend Conover's Gadgets. Not only does he have a wide varity of different optiontial devices, but they are low-lag, fairly priced, and come with extremely easy-to-understand documentation. So truely, LL could scrap Traffic tomorrow, and we'd be out not one iota. ~Jessy

From: Cristalle Karami Henry.
If you read the quoted history, traffic represents the proportionate amount of time spent by avatars at your site, relative to other places. If someone is on for 12 hours a day, but only spends 1 hour at your event, you get 1/12 of the avatar's traffic points. But if someone is on for 1 hour a day and spends it at your event, you get all of their traffic points. It is relative to the amount of time the avatars have spent elsewhere. So, theoretically, you could have better attendance, but if your guests all spent a lot of time online and spent much of it elsewhere, you could see a difference if on another day, you had fewer people but those people spent more of their proportionate online time at your event. Also the group tag has an influence. If your land is set to a certain group and that group tag is showing the traffic for those avatars wearing the group tag is weighted as heavier so an avatar that spends 100% of its 20 minute time that day with a group tag on is more traffic then the same avatar with no group tag on .. then add the proportionate thing it gets strange .. people who travel less and spend time on your parcel will give you better counts then people who travel to a lot of parcels in the same day

From: Raymond Figtree I know the competition that will come along someday is learning from LL's mistakes. But do they have to make so many?

From: JessyAnne Theas In what order would places be listed in search then? Alphabetically by clicking on the "Name" column. It blows the silly trafficking system out the window. And I still TP elsewhere when I see someone sweeping the floor. --KC

From: Cristalle Karami I believe it's 5 minutes. I was able to move up traffic by about 1400 by leaving a singe avatar on the test parcel for 24 hours. That would pretty close to the 1440 minutes in that 24 hour period. I tested this over a period of 2 weeks with 0, 1 and 2 avatars sitting there. There is supposed to be a 5 minutes delay before it starts counting, and all kinds of various other formula out there, but 1 minute per point per avatar works out about as close as you will get.

There is no 5 minute delay; an avie starts contributing from the moment they arrive.
